According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 55-year-old man was traveling west with a 59-year old woman as passenger, both from Immokalee, in the outside lane of Alligator Alley around 8:29 p.m., below the minimum speed limit with its hazard flashers on. While changing lanes, the Mercedes’ front right struck the truck’s left rear, FHP reported.BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A small plane made an emergency landing Wednesday morning on Alligator Alley — only to then have one of its wings clipped by a landscaping truck driving by. The single-engine Mooney M20R made the emergency landing at 9:50 a.m. at Mile Marker 40 on Alligator Alley, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and officials from the city of Weston. The landscaping truck then clipped a wing of the plane, causing it to spin into the grassy area on the side of the highway. Reyes said the pilot was forced to land the plane in the right emergency shoulder. The driver of the landscaping truck was also not harmed in the collision, authorities said.
Authorities were investigating after a body was found on Alligator Alley in far western Broward County Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – An 18-year-old woman was killed and two others were injured early Monday morning in a car crash on Alligator Alley in Broward County, authorities confirmed. According to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Yanko Reyes, who is also a spokesman for the agency, a Honda Civic and a Hyundai Sonata were involved in the collision in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 42 around 2:30 a.m. The young woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the two others were airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition, Reyes said. All lanes were blocked by authorities after the crash, but the left lane reopened at 6:48 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. WEST BROWARD, Fla. – A brush fire burning by Alligator Alley about two miles west of the Miami-Dade and Broward counties line is not an accidental fire, according to the Florida Forest Service, but a prescribed and controlled burn. The Forest Service was burning underbrush Thursday afternoon in the Everglades, taking advantage of cooler temperatures as a way to clear out materials that could prove to be fire hazards in the future. Sky 10 was over the long line of flames, about 3,000 acres, west of US 27 at the County Line and South of Interstate 75. The burn was generating large amounts of smoke. The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department tweeted that anyone with respiratory issues is encouraged to stay indoors.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – An endangered Florida panther has died after being struck by a vehicle. Wildlife officials say the remains of the 1-year-old male panther were found Sunday on Alligator Alley in Collier County just a few miles east of the toll plaza. On Friday, officials say the remains of a male panther cub were found on private land near the Collier County landfill. Florida panthers once roamed the entire Southeast. Up to 230 Florida panthers remain in the wild.Marc Dorizar and Charlene Coriolan are charged with multiple counts of child neglect and child abuse after the Sept. 3, 2020 crash on Interstate 75 in west Broward that killed Marvens Dorizar and injured their three other children.
Motorists are being urged to find alternate routes. The crash is in the area of Alligator Alley and U.S. 27. It was not immediately clear what happened, how many vehicles are involved, or whether the fatality is attributed to the tractor trailer or another vehicle.
