Choosing the right brand is everything when looking for a compact tractor that will hold its value. High quality parts, durable manufacturing materials and unique safety features will ensure your tractor stands the test of time. We’ve selected three popular compact tractor companies that we think hold their value best:You will also have access to manufacture warranties as well as any other perks such as service plans which will mean your tractor will have a higher resale value when you come to sell – providing it is still in good condition of course.John Deere is one of the most iconic tractor brands around, and they also hold their value better than most too. Their unique plastic design ensures that they stay in good condition far longer than other competitors. You will rarely see a John Deere compact tractor in bad condition as plastic doesn’t rust or lose its colour, and it bends to make it more forgiving if there’s an accident.A full service history is also recommended and you should also try to get some kind of warranty if this is not already offered. Reputable compact tractor sellers will usually include a warranty already – a warranty is included in all compact tractor sales on Blacktrac. All of our models have a warranty to give you peace of mind, and our used tractors are always in very good condition having been fully checked by our team. We ensure that all of our tractors are safety compliant and come fitted with PTO safety guards where required as standard. The difference in price is often the key difference between new and used compact tractor models. The up front cost will nearly always be lower on a used model as you are not paying the premium for the newest technology. For most compact tractor owners this isn’t a problem however, as used models are still more than capable of performing all general tasks.Because of this and their overall high build quality, John Deere compact tractors will hold their value exceptionally well. They are often on the higher price range within the compact tractor market but their additional cost is more than justified.
They are usually priced lower than both Kubota and John Deere but that doesn’t mean you are getting any less of a product. With impressive performance and design, a Solis compact tractor will hold its value well when you come to sell it on.
This means Kubota compact tractors hold their value very well if you’re willing to put in the time. Alongside John Deere they are seen as one of the premium compact tractor brands in the UK market.Solis has quickly carved out a reputation for manufacturing high quality machines that last. They feature high quality parts such as Mitsubishi engines and Bosch fuel systems and electronics. Maintenance costs are also very low making it easier and cheaper to look after your tractor. To ensure that your compact tractor stays working for longer and holds its value when you come to sell it on, we offer full servicing and repair. Our skilled mechanics will promptly service and repair your compact tractor using official, high quality parts.
Blacktrac stocks a wide range of new and used compact tractors so you are guaranteed to find something that’s right for you. Our range features tractors from leading manufacturers such as Kubota, Solis, John Deere, JCB, Iseki and lots more.
Kubota compact tractors are also renowned for their high resale value due to their impressive build quality. Some owners estimate that a Kubota tractor that is properly maintained should last for about 5500 hours, but a especially well maintained model could easily see up to 10,000 hours of use under the right conditions.Buying a used compact tractor definitely has its benefits. For a start, the newest models will have the latest developments in tractor technology. Whilst this might seem appealing, it’s worth considering how much you really need the new features as you don’t want to be paying more for something you don’t use. The knowledgable ateam at Blacktrac can help you make a decision if you’re unsure about the specification you need.Buying a used compact tractor often means you’re getting a good deal – although there are plenty of things to consider first. Just like buying anything else that is used, you should do the relevant checks beforehand to make sure it’s in good condition. Research thoroughly online to see what the general prices are for your chosen model. Second hand compact tractor prices are currently high so you should also consider whether paying a bit more for a newer model makes more sense.
Which tractor brand holds its value best?
John Deere is one of the most iconic tractor brands around, and they also hold their value better than most too. Their unique plastic design ensures that they stay in good condition far longer than other competitors.
Everyone wants a tractor that lasts. Selecting the right brand and model is key when purchasing as you want to pick something that holds its value well. Blacktrac offers a selection of high quality compact tractors that will stand the test of time with the proper maintenance and servicing. These models will last anywhere from 4000 to 10,000 hours with the proper care, so you can be sure to get a great deal when you come to sell it on.Early versions of steam-powered engines were not self-propelled and still needed to be towed into the fields by teams of draft animals like horses and mules. In addition, the high cost of the portable engines meant that only a few could afford them.2018 is the Year of the Tractor at the museum. Curator Peter Liebhold explored gems of the museum’s tractor collection and what they can teach us about the history of farming in America.
Each tractor in the collection illustrates a different aspect of how farming changed over time. These are six highlights from over 150 years of tractor and farming history.
For millennia farming was accomplished with human and animal power. Some of the earliest engines began appearing in fields in the mid-1800s. Wood, coal, and even straw fueled a fire to heat water that generated steam to power the engine. Some farmers bought these portable steam engines to run equipment like circular saws for construction or threshing machines for separating and cleaning grain. Steam engines made farmwork less reliant on human brawn or animal power.
Agriculture is a significant part of American history, and nothing is more symbolic of farming than a tractor in front of a red barn. The National Museum of American History has 14 full-size tractors and numerous scale models in its collection, not to mention photographs and other related objects.
No, much like going to a Detroit Tigers game, you cannot get a refund simply because you can no longer make it. You are in charge of finding a person to purchase that ticket from you or giving it to someone else to use.
The Gilmore Car Museum is a public, 501(c)3 non-profit educational institution, dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the American automobile. The 9N was the first tractor to have both a three-point hitch and rear PTO. The 8N was produced from 1947 to 1952 and was extremely popular with 530,00 units sold during its run.
Together, both series had about 660,000 tractors built, which is just a mind-blowing number. And that is why so many M’s and H’s are still running today.
Maybe it’s just the name, but the Ford NAA, or the Golden Jubilee, was an extremely popular tractor. Named for the 50th year of Ford, the series only ran for two years, 1953 and 1954.
For instance, most lists had the John Deere A and B and International Farmall M and H listed separately. But, in my mind, I would group the A and B together and the M and H together. They were manufactured at the same time, so why take up nearly half of the top 10 list with just two series?
The M was built from 1939 to 1954 (this is including the Super series), and 270,000 tractors were built during this time. The H was produced from 1939 to 1953, and there were 391,227 tractors built. Despite the short production run, nearly 130,000 of these tractors were manufactured. The 1953 model featured a special nose badge to note the anniversary. The WD-45 was produced from 1953 to 1957. Just over 90,000 of these tractors were made, with 83,536 tractors having gasoline engines and 6,509 being diesels.
While a newer series (produced from 1977 to 1981), these tractors were extremely popular with farmers and continue to be used today. Five tractors (4040, 4240, 4440, 4640 and the 4840) made up this series. The A was manufactured from 1934 to 1952 with 300,000 units sold. The B’s run was from 1935 to 1952 with 55,670 units sold. That is more than 355,000 of these tractors made during the letter series run.
Some might not include the WC, but it was the first tractor with pneumatic tires. About 178,000 WCs were built from 1934 to 1948, and you still see a WC or two at vintage iron shows/pulls today.Deere labeled their tractors as “new generation” in the early 1960s when the 10 series of tractors were introduced. In 1963, the 3010 was replaced by the 3020, and the 4010 was replaced with the 4020. I was always confused about the Ford 2N, 8N and 9N tractors. Many tractors are identified by numbers or letters in order, but for Ford, the 9N came first, followed by the 2N and then the 8N. As farms were increasing in size in the 1960s, International unveiled the 56 series in 1967. The lineup included the 65 horsepower (hp) 656, the 76 hp 756, 101 hp 856 and the 116 hp 1256.
What is the oldest tractor still in use?
The word “tractor” was first coined by the Hart Parr company. The museum’s Hart Parr #3 is the oldest surviving internal combustion engine tractor. It is currently on display at the Illinois and Indiana Antique Tractor & Gas Engine Club.
That got me thinking about an all-time top 10 list of tractors. Scanning the internet, I discovered many such lists already exist. However, these lists tended to break out individual tractors, whereas I was thinking more along the lines of series of tractors. No list of all-time top tractors would be complete without the John Deere 20 series, which includes the smaller 3020 but is best known for the 4020 model.
Everyone has a top 10 list, it seems, especially as we come to the end of the year. Here at DTN, we will soon have our list of the top 10 ag stories of 2020.By 1966, the 4020 accounted for 48% of all tractor sales for the company. The tractor was produced from 1963 to 1972, and just under 185,000 were made. The Star Tribune mentions a recent record-setting auction where a 1979 John Deere 4640 tractor sold for $61,000. With just 826 hours on the clock—tractors log hours, not miles—out of an expected lifetime of up to about 15,000, this is the tractor version of a car someone “only drove to church on Sunday.” (Let’s all, for no particular reason, revisit “Little Old Lady from Pasadena.”) Still, $61,000 sounds like a lot, until you see a comparable horsepower, used, low-hours 2019 John Deere row crop tractor is listed for $141,000.

John Deere is just keeping up with the times in terms of advancing technology and comforts—its landing page for utility tractors says, “With options like hydraulic cab suspension, panorama roofs and up to 30 degrees of right-hand seat swivel, the only thing on your mind will be the task at hand”—but with every new technology, especially the ones powered by onboard computers, comes a new complex thing that can break, causing costly downtime when a simpler tractor could still be running.
Farmers do embrace plenty of technology, and there’s no part of this that’s motivated by a fear of technology. Planters have replaced one of the most backbreaking and tedious tasks in farming and continued to get better and better over time, but farmers are still looking for used versions of these, which can cost $300,000 or more. The idea of much faster, more efficient work is appealing to everyone, but the extremely high cost in cash and lost time of both purchase and repairs to these complex machines makes them just out of reach for anyone not part of the big corporate farm economy.
The average farm business, a category defined as farms with gross income over $350,000 or some smaller farms that meet certain criteria, makes an average of just over $90,000 in profits per year. That 2019 number is up almost 20 percent from 2018. For farmers to accumulate even the record-setting $61,000 tractor is a huge undertaking, but a used, newer tractor for the price of a well-equipped Maserati Quattroporte might as well be a Maserati for how feasible it is for an average farmer.Minnesota’s Star Tribune reports that farmers are flocking to 40-year-old tractors at auctions. The appeal is twofold: While classic tractors are cheaper to maintain, simpler to use, and much simpler to repair, they’re still also far cheaper than comparable new tractors. Farmers are letting their money talk as they turn away from costly and cushy new models and choose older ones instead.
If a more mechanical and less electronic tractor does break down, a farmer is more likely to be able to repair it themselves or call a local shop without having to send out for a replacement computer or an expensive diagnostic.*** Unfortunately we are unable to reply to show specific questions. What is the most iconic tractor?
No list of all-time top tractors would be complete without the John Deere 20 series, which includes the smaller 3020 but is best known for the 4020 model. Deere labeled their tractors as “new generation” in the early 1960s when the 10 series of tractors were introduced.
The Hornsby and almost all the very early American tractors were heavyweights designed mainly to replace steam traction engines for stationary work and haulage. But other British pioneers took a very different approach by developing lighter, more versatile tractors to replace horses for field work.
Bear in mind that steam power in the 1890s had almost 200 years of development behind it and was relatively reliable, while the four-stroke petrol engine had been around for less than 20 years and its primitive ignition and fuel supply systems were often troublesome.
They included Professor John Scott, who had returned to Scotland following a teaching career at what is now the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester. He began his tractor design work in the late 1890s, forming a small company to put his ideas into production.
Much of their early success was in what was then the high-horsepower sector, including a 100hp model in 1911, and they also claimed to have introduced the word “tractor”, which featured in one of their advertisements in the early 1900s. The Hart-Parr company was still making tractors in 1929 when it lost its identity in the merger that formed the Oliver farm machinery company.Overseas sales during the first three years of production covered 18 different countries and included an order from the Philippines for 14 tractors, while an American company built a small number under a licence agreement.
What is the most valuable antique tractor?
1913 Case 30-60 A 1913 Case 30-60 has sold for a record breaking USD$1.47 million, making it not only the most expensive antique tractor in history but the world’s most expensive tractor.
The company returned to tractor production in 1912 using the Waterloo Boy name. In 1917 Deere & Co entered the tractor market by taking over the Waterloo company, and Waterloo Boy models were the start of John Deere’s long and illustrious tractor history.
Few Scott tractors were sold and his prediction, during a talk to a farmers’ club in Scotland, that tractors would one day replace horses for farm work was not well received in an area where breeding and selling working horses was an important enterprise on some farms.
Special versions of the tractor included a narrow model built to navigate the rows of a French vineyard, while a tractor adapted for an Australian fruit grower was probably the world’s first orchard tractor. It was the first compression-ignition engine, arriving just a few years before Rudolf Diesel’s eponymous creation. It was started by using a blowlamp to create a hot-spot on the cylinder head and ran on heavy oils such as paraffin instead of petrol.
Another early success was a company established in 1897 by Charles Hart and Charles Parr. They had built an experimental engine while they were university students and their company initially focused on engines, with their first tractor arriving in 1901.
Nicolaus Otto had built the first successful four-stroke petrol engine in Germany in 1876, and engines based on his patents and carrying his name had been produced in America since 1878.The customer was an estate in Surrey, and a further three Hornsby tractors were exported to Australia. A tracklaying version demonstrated to military authorities helped start a development programme that would lead on to the world’s first battle tanks.
What is the definition of an antique tractor?
Antique tractor means a full-size farming vehicle, model year 1959 or earlier, either stock or modified, powered by a gasoline or diesel engine, originally designed, mass-produced, and sold commercially through a dealer network to pull ground engaging equipment on a farm.
The company, the Waterloo Gasoline Traction Engine Co, began small-scale production in 1893, but two of the first customers were not satisfied and returned their tractors.Held in a wheat field, the programme started with the tractor pulling a binder to harvest some of the crop, and the sheaves were then carried on the tractor’s rear load platform to a threshing machine on the headland. It was demonstrated to senior officers who tested the armour plating with rifle fire, but apparently took no further interest in an idea that might have saved lives in the First World War.
