Oops, The Next DOOM Game's Release Date Appears To Have Been Leaked (2025)

I hope this one makes it onto the Switch 2, but if there is any doubt that the system can't handle it, then call up the fine people at Panic Button.

I can see it being announced in April for Switch 2 and released launch month or even day for the console

@Servbot_EJ The Switch 1 was able to handle the other two and this one's using the same engine, there'll be a Switch 2 version eventually.

Could be cool to play on the go, but I'm not a big enough doom fan to shell out the cash for it. I'll play this one on gamepass.

Knowing Doom's reputation to be on everything, I think this game would be on Switch 2 one way or another. It'll probably land on Xbox and PC first though as Microsoft owns Bethesda.

@Serpenterror this game (Doom The Dark Ages) is coming out on PS5 on day 1. Same day as Xbox and PC.

@anoyonmus I never said it won't come out on PS5. It may be release on the same day for all platforms (except Nintendo) but the Xbox and PC will get first dipped. Likely the PS5 port will be delay by a few hours.

Releasing Eternal as a digital download only-game was a crime, a game of such caliber. Fortunately we got a physical version thanks to LRG. I really hope Dark Ages comes to NS2.

@thenikdavies it will probably be announced Thursday for Switch 2.

I'm very excited to check it out via Game Pass, and if I like it, I hope LRG does a Switch 2 release.

My favorite series of all time. I can't wait to see all the ridiculous stuff they came up with this time.

My eyes for this year are focused on "switch 2" 🥳 lol. Will go all out. Lots of games that come out on day one of the release (if it doesnt take to long to come out)

I’m curious to what they do with this one, have a love and hate relationship with Eternal but it’s condescending fans have soured me on it over time, they love to hammer people into the ground for not getting the game the way they do and went absolutely rabid over the changes made when the second DLC dropped. I think they’ll either double down or mistakingly just turn it into Serious Sam rather then attempting to rebalance things to be less about spamming weapon swap combos while dealing with resource /cooldown management.

Fingers crossed this will eventually come to Switch 2 for those interested (not me personally, but still) - considering its release date, I wouldn't be surprised if it were in the April 2 Direct and released on Switch 2 not long after other systems if not even at the same time!

@Servbot_EJ I think this is a nailed on release. id Tech is pretty flexible. But it will be telling for MS if they need a third party to port it for them.

I reckon there's going to be a sizzle reel of Xbox games in the Switch 2 Direct. With quite a few of their major games coming in launch year.

With the games already rumoured to be coming, like Halo MCC, Flight Simulator and Fallout, and the others under their belt like Doom, Diablo and COD, Microsoft could end up being the best 3rd party on Switch 2. That would be mad.

I have every single DOOM game available on Switch, love them all.. except for DOOM 3. It actually looks stunning in places, but I just can’t quite get on with it. DOOM 2016 is probably my favourite, one of my very first Switch games.

But to be honest, the Engine is the best i have seen in Years, the Loading Times of Doom Eternal (on PC) are insanely fast, even on a HDD it just runs in Seconds.

Doom 3 BFG looks worse than the original, because it makes many Spaces brighter and has Downgrades in Lightning.
As a simple Example, the Eyes of Enemies glow in the Dark in the original, not in BFG.
There are many Scenes that look stunning, due to the Lights glowing in the Dark.
In the BFG all this is just another grey Area.
The higher Textures don't help, also not that the whole Game stops when Saving.

The original Doom 3 with HD Textures holds up very well.

Btw. the Shotgun is a one hit Killer, you just have to overcome your Fear and get close to the Enemy.

@Azuris it's really sad that BFG Edition is just standard Doom 3 now. PSX Doom and 64 were the ones I played most as a kid, so I'm kind of used to thinking of the first games as horror experiences.

@EVIL-C how much does a copy of 2016 on Switch go for? Doesn't it only contain a fraction of the game on the cart anyway?

@LikelySatan The campaign is on the card. Multiplayer required a download, IIRC.

I'd only ever play this if it got a PSVR2/PC VR release.
Unless they included quality motion Gyro aiming with a sensitivity depth slider using the PS5 Dual Sense controller. While it's clocked at 120fps on a 65" QD-OLED, topped with a killer surround sound system. But, in most ways that will still be 100% small-fry compared to the sheer potential of a PSVR2 port.

Every time i go back to play any FPS on my TV, i feel like I'm going completely backwards after being so accustomed to Q3 & PSVR2. The former is feeling like a total stale hat. Dealing with a flat 2D Screen that suffers from motion blur, and Gyro aiming which is nowhere near as good as Quest 3/PSVR2 motion controls always puts me off. The immersion just isn't there anymore at least for me anyways.

Although, if i try and trick my mind into it being 1998, i could definitely do some rounds of Golden Eye 007 N64 multi-player. lol

I've played almost all the Dooms games. I can't wait for this to come out.
