Presentation was nice, the fried rice was excellent, and the won ton soup and crunchy noodles were very good. My husband was pleased with his spicy General Tso’s chicken, and our granddaughter with her pork lo mein. My cashew shrimp was loaded with shrimp but…had no flavor. I’ve never had this dish without some kind of sauce added. It was just a pile of shrimp and celery with some cashews and a few strips of carrot. I’ll try something different next time. We ordered carry out for 5. Food was ok. Not great,not terrible. Just ok. Quantity of food was very good but we all agreed that it was kind of bland. It definitely lacked seasoning. We ordered 1 white rice and 5 fried rice. When we…got our order home we only had 1 fried and 1white rice. Overall not impressed at all with the flavor of the food. Probably would not go back.More
The first time I went there I ordered hot tea. It was derived hot and perfect (not weak like some places). Then we ordered white meat chicken chow mien. Awesome! Each time we get the same thing but we also get a bunch of soups…and sides. We always come back for more. Our only complaint would be the volcano drink – too sugary and wrong ratio of flavors. When I grew up in RVA (decades ago), there wasn’t ANYTHING like Yen Ching. Very good food. I had sesame shrimp and it was delicious. Service was a bit rough, but I think they just aren’t at full staff yet (pandemic). But it’s a lovely…atmosphere and really good foodMore
Nice, open decor with exceptional service. Nice menu with spicy items clearly marked. Even though the restaurant was busy, our orders were prepared promptly and were delicious. Ample parking.
I’ve eaten at their other locations (Hull St., Midlothian Tnpk.) on multiple occasions for last 3 decades. It was always competent and instantly recognizable Chinese version of comfort food that I’ve come to appreciate. At the West Broad location, the food was just TERRIBLE. It…looked and tasted nothing like what we had at their other locations. Every single dish we ordered was bad except for one, Hunan shrimp and it was just OK. They gave us Sichuan beef when we ordered Hunan beef. And it was lacking vegetables that usually come with Sichuan beef. Their Mongolian beef was unrecognizable and flavorless. Their signature Yen Ching soup was also awful, nothing like their counterpart at other locations. Hot and sour soup was very bland and didn’t have that rich brown color. Mapo tofu was watery and bland, utterly lacking in any hint of spice, with cosistency more like a soup. Sesame chicken was soggy and also bland. They did not even include any utensils in our carrryout order. This was by far the worst Chinese carryout ever. The hack that cooks food at this location should be fired for masquerading as a chef. Either that or their real chef was out with illness that day.More
Internet order for pick-up. Did look nice inside. Kind of standard. Could have been better if we were allowed to dine inside. Ready in a timely fashion.Best Asian food around, very flavorful. Our waiter wasn’t very attentive, but food was hot and very tasty. Would recommend.the atmosphere is beautiful.We always have found the food to be delicious, no matter what we’ve ordered. Our family favorite is the Crispy Chicken from the dinner menu. Their service has always been very attentive. We’ve had many family dinners there, marking birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations.
We were there on one important occasion. I have decided to go there by reading reviews but somehow I am not satisfied that much. 3/5 would be my rating. We ordered Crispy Honey Chicken, Five Taste Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Lo Mein, Chicken Fried Rice with…hot and sour soup. They claim five taste chicken is their specialty but it was just chicken breast chunk in honey/bbq sauce. Everything was okay, not great in taste. The server was very rude to us. We asked do you have coke, he replied in one word-‘Pepsi’. Again, we asked do u have coke, he again replied- ‘Pepsi’. Dude tell us we don’t keep coke, why you are confusing us. Decent food and reliable. Except, when my delivery order got screwed up and never came I was told it was on the way. After another call, told it wasn’t coming. So, mistakes happen. That’s understood.
