When the foundry workers went on strike, he moved his family to Kentucky and he worked in maintenance in the coal mines for a few years. He eventually moved back to this area and worked at Newell in Albion until 1993 when he suffered a stroke.
Honorary casketbearers are Bill Moore, Willie Gose, and Bo Stevens. Active casketbearers are his grandsons, Donny Siples, Shane Knox, Adam Powers, Brandon Percey, Nathan Gibson, Jeremy Gibson, and Josh Conley.He was born February 8, 1935, in Gunlock, Kentucky, to Willis and Emily (Shepherd) Conley. On June 6, 1958, in Summersville, Ohio, he married Ellen Gibson.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 4, 2011 at 1:30p.m. in Harbor of Love Baptist Church, 2353 South Lima Road, Kendallville, with Pastor Charles Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen Conley of Kendallville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Emily and Bruce Andrews of Big Long Lake, Virginia Terry and her fiancé, Joe Gupton of Butler, and Waneta and Butch Percey of Beaumont, Texas; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Arnold Ray Gibson of Kendallville and Danny Ray and Sherry Conley of Cassopolis, Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma and Elmer Hoover of Wayne, Michigan, Ceila and Don Bolen of Destin, Florida, Margie and Doug Cook of Wayne, Michigan, and Lee and Freddie Tillman of Thousand Oaks, California; and a brother and sisters-in-law, Frank D and Reana Conley of Louisiana; and two sisters-in-law, Delores Conley of New Mexico and Nadine Conley of Wayland, Kentucky.This site uses cookies to provide you with a great user experience. Curtis Dale Conley, who was the first Catoosa mayor directly elected by voters, died July 28 of cancer. He was 75. A funeral was held Saturday at the Catoosa High School Activity Center under the direction of Kennedy-Amis-Kennard Funeral Service.Conley also was instrumental in persuading voters to approve a sales tax to build a library and community center, and he helped the city obtain grants to improve its water and sewer systems.
He and other locals, who dubbed themselves “The Liar’s Table,” met every morning at the now-closed diner to swap yarns over their coffee about city history and current affairs.
CATOOSA — Getting under the hood of city government to make it run better wasn’t much of a leap, at least in principle, for Curtis Conley, a successful automobile mechanic.
Conley is survived by his wife of 39 years; two daughters, Sonja Redding and Doniece Burns; a son, Greg Addington; a great-nephew, Ryan Robison, whom the Conleys raised; his mother, Ira Lee Burris; three brothers, Fred Conley, Jerry Conley and Bill Conley; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He also was one of the founders of the annual Route 66 Flywheelers show in Catoosa, and he was the curator and a board member for Catoosa’s D.W. Correll Museum.
Curtis Conley went from working on cars to serving as the mayor of Catoosa. He held the post for 18 years, helping guide the city through a period of growth. Conley died July 28 at age 75. Tulsa World fileConley, who spent 18 years as Catoosa’s mayor and more than three decades on its City Council, was equally comfortable when called on to be the face of his community.”If there was a water leak that needed fixing, he would get out in those ditches himself and do it,” his wife said. “He knew how, and if it needed doing, he would just do it.”He pushed a conservative fiscal policy and oversaw the completion of a new City Hall in the late 1990s — paid for, as he noted proudly, without having to pass a bond issue.
“We talk about whatever’s going on — anything from fishing to hanging,” Conley told the World. “We got the latest. We get it here before they get it at City Hall.”
Curtis Ray Conley, 47, of Elkton, passed away September 30, 2022 at his home. Mr. Conley was born November 20, 1974 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late Raymond Ray and Brenda Lee Beasley Conley.
Curtis is survived by his fiancée, Brenda Dean Morris; his children, Dakota Conley and wife, Joyce, James Conley, and Tierney Conley and fiancée, Austin Evans; like a daughter, Heaven Brill; a sister, Gloria Reedy; grandchildren, Waylon Evans, and Kassiopeia Conley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dogs, “Candie” and “Abby” who he loved dearly.He graduated from Spotswood High School and loved playing his guitar, riding motorcycles, rock and roll music, and was a huge fan of Wrestling, he was a pro-wrestler and was on social media, doing “Smokey Mountain Wrestling”.
Pastor Jimmy Kite will conduct the funeral service 1 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at the Linville Cemetery in Linville.
