Disney Pumpkin Painting

Halloween is such a great time for creativity. For one, there are all sorts of pumpkin decorating options to take advantage of! For pumpkin carving, take a look at my list of over 700 free pumpkin carving patterns you’ll see that there’s a pumpkin stencil for just about every interest.

Note: The hands-down easiest way to paint a pumpkin is to use a foam 9″ craft pumpkin. You won’t have to worry about irregular surfaces or covering up the color. You’ll also be able to use your pumpkin for decoration year after year!

7. Paint from lightest color to darkest: Identify what paint colors you need, then start painting with your lightest color first. This will minimize smearing and make any painted pumpkin mistakes much more fixable. Pumpkins are porous. Sealing your pumpkin will help the paint stick to the pumpkin. We’ve had good luck with this spray-on clear coat.

5. Transfer your design onto your pumpkin using carbon transfer paper. Just put your Disney pumpkin design on top of a sheet of carbon transfer paper and go over all the lines with a ballpoint pen.

6. Tape off sections for clean lines. Use painter’s tape to paint clean, even lines onto your pumpkin. This is especially helpful for any straight lines, dividing up the pumpkin into sections and doing something like painting half of a pumpkin one color.

They just don’t last very long. A few years ago, we began painting pumpkins early in the season. Using an average pumpkin as our blank canvas, we can create some pretty spooktacular pumpkins that last and last and last.For large pumpkins, I like to use old fashioned plastic pumpkin buckets I find at the thrift store. We found the perfect extra large white pumpkin at our local pumpkin patch and then topped it with a mini white pumpkin. I like to buy a variety of sizes of craft pumpkins including mini pumpkins because they make great ‘heads’ when modeling your pumpkins after a Disney character.

Continuing with the geeky pop culture ideas, let’s celebrate Marvel which appeals to everyone from young kids and teens to adults! If your family loves superheroes, then let them pick their favorite character to inspire your pumpkin projects.

Cover the pumpkins in white or black paint, or whatever base color you want your pumpkin to start with. Don’t forget to paint the bottom of the pumpkin.
