Eggsact Egg Timer

Countdown timers not specifically for eggs are also available for general kitchen and timing use. For example, the clockwork Memo Park Timer had a countdown of up to sixty minutes and was sold attached to a keyring, its original purpose being to remind motorists when their parking meter was due to expire. One such product is made of translucent plastic with a heat-sensitive coloured disc in the middle which changes colour at 80 °C (176 °F). The plastic around the disc changes temperature relatively steadily and gradually from the outside to the inside of the plastic mimicking how an egg heats up while cooking. This allows an observer to see the colour creep inwards through the disc and stop the boiling at the stage required. As it mimics the boiling of an egg, it will be accurate even if the boiling process is disrupted, a lower temperature is used and regardless of the quantity of eggs being cooked. Other similar products use electronics to sense the water temperature and play a certain tune or series of beeps to indicate the state of the eggs.

An egg timer or kitchen timer is a device whose primary function is to assist in timing during cooking; the name comes from the first timers initially being used for the timing of cooking eggs. Early designs simply counted down for a specific period of time. Some modern designs can time more accurately by depending on water temperature rather than an absolute time.
Eggs consist of proteins which denature when heat is applied. They lose their shape and become long strands rather than tight masses. They then tangle with each other causing the liquid of the egg to become more and more viscous.Traditionally egg timers were small hourglasses and the name has come to be synonymous with this form. As technology progressed mechanical countdown timers were developed which had an adjustable dial and could be applied to a wide range of timed cooking tasks. Most recently digital timers have also been manufactured and a wide selection of software is available to perform this task on a computer or mobile phone. The task is simple to perform on most microwaves and oven timers.

New products have been developed which potentially allow for better egg timing; these use the temperature of the water in which the eggs are being cooked to indicate the cooking state of the eggs. This kind of timer has the potential to more accurately indicate the state of the egg while it is being cooked as they do not rely on certain conditions (water hardness, hob temperature, atmospheric pressure).
Most traditional egg timers have a set time of about three minutes, that being the approximate time it takes to cook an average sized hen’s egg in water. Hard-boiled eggs take longer to cook. The three minute egg timer is for soft-boiled eggs. The egg changes rapidly during the first few minutes of cooking. The changes cannot be seen through the eggshell, so timing is important.

Make sure your eggs aren’t fridge cold. By having the eggs at room temperature, it will be less of a shock for the egg reaching the hot water and therefore less likely to crack. You can also use an egg pricker to make a very small hole in each egg before boiling, which will also reduce the chances of it cracking in the heat. Slowly lower the eggs into the water using a spoon.
Put the eggs in a single layer in a pan and cover them with room-temperature water so it comes about 1cm above the eggs. Cover and bring it to the boil. When the water is boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and start timing. To boil an egg accurately, make sure it is not fridge-cold and use a timing suitable for the size. The timings below are for large eggs – cook for 30 seconds less for a medium egg and 30 seconds more for an extra-large egg.

Set your timer for 4-5 mins for runny/dippy eggs to serve with soldiers, or 6-7 mins for soft-boiled eggs for a salad. If serving in a salad, plunge the eggs into a bowl of cold water as soon as the timer goes off – this will stop them cooking and cool the shells quickly for peeling.
There is no absolute foolproof way to perfectly boil an egg as, each time, the size and temperature of the egg may vary. You can also start by cooking in cold water or add the eggs to boiling water. Because eggs cook from the outside in, the whites are liable to overcooking. However, with a bit of trial and error, you can find the method that suits you.You can also use an egg pricker or pin to make a very small hole in each egg before boiling, which will reduce the chance of it cracking in the heat. Slowly lower the eggs into the water using a spoon – don’t just drop them.

If you’re using a gas hob, you may find that your eggs cook a little quicker as the heat can be fierce, so cook the eggs for 4 minutes for a runny egg or 6 minutes for soft-boiled. For induction hobs, the eggs can take about 1 minute more, so 5 minutes for runny and 7 minutes for soft-boiled.
Make sure your eggs aren’t fridge-cold (if your eggs are fridge-cold, add 30 seconds to each timing below) – eggs at room temperature will have less of a shock when put into hot water and will therefore be less likely to crack. How long an egg takes to boil depends entirely on how runny you’d like the yolk and white to be. Eggs used to be boiled until they were completely cooked for use in sandwiches and salads, but now they are often cooked until the white is just set and yolk is ‘jammy’. This means the yolk is still slightly soft and hasn’t turned hard and chalky. Eggs with this kind of centre are also prized for the centres of scotch eggs. Bring a large pan of water to the boil and lower in the eggs in a single layer. Reduce the heat to a simmer and use the following timings for large eggs: When you walk through our door you will be greeted by an unsurpassed selection of items and a friendly staff member who is well-trained on our products, ensuring that we are the authority for cooking, dining and entertaining. If you’ve ever boiled an egg you’ve probably run into problems at one time or another. Two challenges generally arise: cooking the egg and peeling the egg. You might have found your eggs under/overcooked, or when you tried to peel the egg it ended up looking like the surface of the moon.

Egg yolks set at a much lower temperature than egg whites (70 degrees C vs 80 degrees C). Since the heat source (boiling water) is outside the egg, it cooks from the outside in. In theory, this means that by the time yolk is set, the white has also reached its higher setting temperature.

Is an egg timer 3 minutes?
Most traditional egg timers have a set time of about three minutes, that being the approximate time it takes to cook an average sized hen’s egg in water. Hard-boiled eggs take longer to cook. The three minute egg timer is for soft-boiled eggs. The egg changes rapidly during the first few minutes of cooking.
The problem with most boiled egg instructions is that they create a formula (put eggs in cold water, bring to boil, boil for X minutes) assuming you put the exact same size and temperature of egg into the same amount of water in the same pan on the same stove… Well, you get the idea.Since the boiling water is much hotter than the setting temperature of the egg, it’s very easy to zoom past the desired temperature. Because the temperature is rising so fast, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when to stop the cooking to get the egg exactly how you like it, whether you’re going for runny yolks or firm yolks.

This is how I adapted the technique for eggs. Put refrigerated eggs in a heavy bottomed pot and cover with cold tap water so they’re covered by about 1″ (2.5cm) of water. Bring the water to a full boil (100 degrees C) over high heat, and then remove the pot from the heat. Let the eggs cook the rest of the way using the residual heat in the water. As the temperature of the egg rises, the temperature of the water will fall, which will give you a much wider window when your egg is perfectly cooked.
Whether you like them soft-boiled or hard boiled, this recipe explains all the factors involved in making perfectly boiled eggs for your setup. As a bonus, I’ve also tested several methods of making eggs easier to peel and have come up with the best method for peeling boiled eggs.Since the main problem with boiling an egg is the narrow window of time during which the egg is perfect, I asked myself how I could slow the cooking down to expand that window of perfection. I found my answer in the way I cook my chicken for chicken soup

The good news is, I’ve come up with a method that works every time, no matter how fresh the egg is. The secret is to put a small crack in the bottom of the egg(the fat side) BEFORE you boil it. The crack needs to extend all the way through the hard shell, but it must not rupture the soft inner membrane (otherwise you’ll end up with egg white spewing out of the crack as it boils). I use a small curved object (like the end of a pestle or back of a spoon) to crack the egg on. It creates a more predictable circular crack rather than a linear crack that could spread and rupture the membrane.
Hi, I’m Marc Matsumoto, a retired chef living in Tokyo, and I founded No Recipes to empower home cooks of all levels by sharing essential techniques and my kitchen secrets.

Can your AMH level be wrong?
In some cases, an AMH test might come back with false results. For instance, if you’re on an oral birth control pill or have an irregular hypothalamus, your AMH levels may appear lower than they truly are.
With all that in mind, here are the cooking times for various types of boiled eggs. The times start after the water has come to a boil and you’ve turned off the heat.

The good news is that both of these problems are easily resolved with a little understanding of the science of eggs. Read on and you’ll be boiling expertly oval eggs whether you’re going for a perfect hard boiled egg or a gooey soft cooked one.
If you do a search on google for “peel an egg” there are literally dozens of purported ways to make peeling an egg easy. Most of them don’t work with fresh eggs, and while using older eggs works pretty well, who wants to wait two weeks or more to make a boiled egg? It might not matter so much for egg salad, when you want those perfect half-ovals for devilled eggs, frustration mounts. With egg price on the rise, it’s more important than ever to get the cooking times right. Luckily, I did this research many years ago. The principles still apply.

What is a 4 minute egg?
4 minutes – The white is fully set, but the yolk is thick and runny. 6 minutes – The white is fully set, and the yolk is mostly set, but still a little runny in the middle. 8 minutes – The white is fully set, and the yolk is set, but tender.
Now that you’ve mastered the art of boiling eggs how you like them, how about becoming a poached egg pro, or a sunny-side up superstar? To help you along, I’ve put together a short digital cookbook where I walk you through my techniques for making the perfect egg recipes every time!Hi, thanks for this. I use a pressure cooker (NOT an instapot) but my eggs were over cooking. Then someone else shopped and there were medium eggs! I managed perfect Hard boiled with 4 min at temp and 4 min off. I like that you start with refrigerated eggs. you thinking and technique make sense to me.

How to make a 60 minute egg?
But normal spoon would be fine. If you’re gonna cook your eggs very precise temperature.
By putting a small crack in the shell, it allows water to enter the egg and saturate the membrane, mimicking the membrane of an older egg. If any scientists out there want to compare some cross sections of the albumen-membrane interface under a scanning electron microscope it would be awesome to finally put this mystery to rest.Once you’ve mastered the technique, you’ll be ready to try the many dishes on No Recipes that include boiled eggs. Japanese Potato Salad, Japanese Egg Sandwich, Ramen Eggs, and Egg in a Biscuit all feature boiled eggs. You can also use them to crown a bowl of ramen, bejewel a composed salad, or tuck inside a bento. You’ll be finding new ways to show off these beauties every day.

Remember to transfer your eggs to cold water as soon as you take them out of the pot to stop the cooking immediately. Otherwise, your eggs will continue cooking even after you’ve taken them out of the water. So why does this work? My theory is that by putting a small crack in the shell, it allows water to enter the egg and saturate the membrane, mimicking the membrane of an older egg.The best way to figure out what works for your setup is to boil a dozen eggs and start pulling the eggs out of the water in thirty-second increments after about 3 minutes. But who wants to waste that many eggs? Well, luckily I have a friend that farms eggs and I’ve been busy experimenting in my lab to come up with an (almost) foolproof method of boiling eggs.

Before I give you cooking times for the eggs though, you need to know that there are many other factors that will affect the cooking time of the egg and I’ve outlined some of the major ones below along with what I did in my kitchen.
There’s swirling debate about how to whip up a perfect boiled egg. Dozens of cookbooks all offer different and conflicting approaches and techniques on how to achieve boiled egg greatness without much reason as to why it’s deemed best. From time spent cooking to the size of the pan used in the process, there’s a lot of information out there as to what method is regarded as “best practice.” We’re here to settle the debate with our two cents on the topic. When it comes to cooking boiled eggs things can get complicated. We’re here to make it easy. With these cooking tips you’ll be on your way to egg-cellent boiled eggs, worthy of a dinner party debut or for everyday snacking. Choosing the right pan or pot to cook with is important. We recommend choosing one that is just larger enough to hold all of the eggs you intend to prepare — don’t go too big or opt for one that is too small. When cooking eggs in the microwave, always use a microwave-safe container (e.g. glass, ceramic or microwave-safe plastic) and pierce yolk and white several times or whisk before cooking.

Break one or two eggs into container. Pierce yolks and whites with fork four or five times to bottom of container (piercing is necessary to prevent “exploding” during cooking). If using a mug or ramekin, cover with plastic wrap, pulling back small area for venting. If using an egg cooker, place lid on cooker base, lining up notches. Twist to secure.

For Soft Boiled Egg: Microwave on High (100% power) for 30 seconds, or on Medium (50% power) for 50 seconds. Let stand for 30 seconds before removing plastic wrap or lid. If still undercooked, turn egg over in container, cover, and microwave for another 10 seconds, or until cooked as desired.
Spray microwave-safe container (e.g. mug, ramekin, or egg cooker) with cooking spray or wipe lightly with vegetable oil. Sprinkle a few grains of salt into bottom of container (salt attracts microwave energy and helps to cook egg evenly).Cooking times will vary depending on microwave oven cavity-size, wattage and desired consistency of yolk. Times provided are for a 1000-watt microwave oven. Increase time slightly for lower wattage; decrease for higher wattage. Start with shortest time and increase in 10 second intervals. Note the time that works best for your microwave oven.

And overcooked eggs. Well this egg timer right here will take the guesswork. I have boiling eggs. And ensure that you always have the perfect boiled egg here’s how it. Works.
For Hard Boiled Egg: Microwave on High (100% power) for 40 seconds. Let stand for 30 seconds before removing plastic wrap or lid. If still undercooked, turn egg over in container, cover, and microwave for another 10 seconds, or until cooked as desired.Basic microwaved eggs are a quick and easy alternative to getting out a skillet pan. What is a 9 minute egg?
Boiling. Add water to your pot, keeping in mind that you only need enough to cover the eggs, and bring to a boil. Once you’re boiling, turn off the heat, add the eggs, cover and start your timer for nine minutes. A nine minute cook time is best for large eggs.
Having an AMH test conducted can have several benefits. For starters, it is a great indicator for your OBGYN or fertility doctor to determine your candidacy for certain fertility treatments, i.e. IVF or egg freezing. In simple terms, an AMH test informs your doctors what your ovaries are capable of, where they’re currently at, and what they can handle. Knowing your AMH levels can help you decide the next plan of action for you and your eggs so that you can be proactive rather than reactive.Brighid Flynn is a freelance writer based in Philadelphia where she lives with her husband and puppy. She is just beginning her journey toward motherhood.

Let’s take it back to the beginning. As women, we are born with a finite amount of eggs, roughly 1-2 million. From the time of our first menstrual cycle, this number begins to decrease. Why is that? Well, during each menstrual cycle, our body collects a group of follicles, each with an egg inside, in hopes that it might ovulate. Typically, just one egg ovulates per month, and the rest of the eggs inside the follicles that were not chosen then dissolve. Therefore, with each cycle, the number of eggs in our reserve decreases.
So, where does AMH come into play? The follicles that are harvested in our ovaries each month are responsible for producing AMH. Therefore, the hormone is often used by healthcare providers as a marker to test the level of eggs remaining in a woman’s ovarian reserve. While an AMH test is a great resource for those contemplating their fertility options, it does not predict the ability to naturally conceive. Low AMH levels do not indicate infertility. Just because a person with ovaries has low AMH levels does not automatically mean they will have a difficult fertility journey. It is completely possible to get pregnant with your own eggs with low AMH. In the same vein, normal or high levels of AMH do not always equate to an easy road to conception. In some cases, an AMH test might come back with false results. For instance, if you’re on an oral birth control pill or have an irregular hypothalamus, your AMH levels may appear lower than they truly are. In these cases, another way to determine a woman’s ovarian reserve is to conduct an antral follicle count during a transvaginal ultrasound. For example, at the start of your fertility journey, you may begin to track your BBT (Basal Body Temperature) to more accurately time your BD (Baby Dance). If you’re interested in learning more about your fertility, your doctor might order an AMH, or anti-mullerian hormone, test, which can help determine your ovarian egg reserve. But what does that really mean?

Your OBGYN or fertility doctor will conduct a hormonal blood test to determine your AMH levels. A high level of AMH, which is considered greater than 1 ng/mL, usually indicates a healthy, normal ovarian reserve. Anything less than 1 ng/mL might indicate that a woman has a lower, or depleted ovarian reserve.

While trying to conceive and holding out hope for that BFP (Big Fat Positive) test result, you will be inundated with so many terms and acronyms that it might become difficult to remember what everything means and what role it plays in your fertility.

As people with ovaries age, they naturally begin to lose eggs from that finite amount they were born with. The rate of eggs lost is a steady decline until the age of 30 and then increases rapidly thereafter, and even more so after 35 years of age.

This egg timer replaces the exact same one I used for years. So glad to be able to find another one just like it!! Other brands I looked at are more expensive, and made in China. This one was made in the USA, is simple design, and does what it is designed to do very effectively & efficiently. I’m a happy camper :-)3. Watch as the colour lightens from the outside edge inwards. When the ring reaches the mark you are looking for, remove the pot from the heat and take the eggs out, running them through cold water to stop cooking. So if you dream of soft boiled egg and toast soldiers but always end up with grey-yolked rocks or the white that’s a little too runny, here’s a nifty tool to help you reach egg nirvana.4. Peel your eggs and enjoy their perfectly cooked deliciousness. The timer will carry on changing colour, as it’s heated now. When it comes back to room temperature, the colour will change back to red.The procedures such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) and IVF are devised to try to improve their chances as much as possible. IUI can get the pregnancy rates up to the higher teens for some couples. With any treatment, pregnancy rates can vary according to the age of the woman. Those patients who did have egg retrievals had, on average, four eggs retrieved. About 5 percent had zero eggs retrieved. The clinical pregnancy rates per cycle start were 13 percent. More surprisingly, the pregnancy rates were 22 percent per retrieval and 28 percent per transfer. So, while some patients dropped out because they had no embryos develop, the pregnancy rates were decent. Ultimately, live births are the only true measure of success, and this group of patients had 16 percent success rate per retrieval and 20 percent for transfer. There are spontaneous pregnancies when otherwise we might think, based on the past, that it could not happen. Every year we have happy surprises with patients who are trying, trying and trying and finally the right egg gets to the right place and Mother Nature comes through. But we cannot really count on this. We know that patients with unexplained infertility, for example, who have been trying to conceive for five years have a chance of conception which might be under 5 percent each month compared with 20 percent for couples their age without a history of infertility.

Recently, we had a patient in her early 40s come in for a second opinion. She was told by another center that because her AMH was low, she only had a 2 percent chance of conceiving and they would not allow her to try in vitro fertilization (IVF) with her own eggs. If you have a low AMH value of 0.1, you do not have to move immediately to an egg donor.
We hope to see a good AMH result; low AMH levels can portend difficulty in trying to conceive. We also need to look at the antral follicle count to see how many follicles there are. Even if the AMH is less than 1 and the numbers of the eggs are low, the pregnancy rates can be perfectly reasonable, and in fact parallel to those who have better AMH levels.

This was the largest study of its kind and was the first study to really analyze this subset of ultralow AMH potential patients who face the possibility of poor response with Standard IVF. Other studies have shown pregnancy rates in similar populations of IVF patients, with live birth rates of 5-6 percent.
Marina and her husband tried in vitro fertilization (IVF), but it did not work. The couple went on vacation, and pregnancy happened – after three years of trying. We met their sweet little Matthew recently for the first time.

Can you get pregnant with 0.01 AMH?
Even if the AMH is less than 1 and the numbers of the eggs are low, the pregnancy rates can be perfectly reasonable, and in fact parallel to those who have better AMH levels.
First to note, the cycle cancellation rate was 55 percent. This is to be expected with this patient population. If a patient goes through stimulation and finds out that she is getting only one or two follicles for a Standard IVF cycle, it is frequently cancelled.AMH, or anti-Müllerian hormone, is one of the tests in a fertility work-up. This hormone is produced by the cells in the ovary and is one of the markers for ovarian reserve or function. Ovarian reserve and age are inversely related: as a woman ages, her ovarian reserve decreases. The AMH level is ideally between 1 and 2. Based on a previous study, we know that we can expect diminished ovarian reserve and low response if the AMH is less than 0.6 ng/mL. An AMH test result of 0.16 is considered “ultralow.”

Our patient Marina conceived on vacation, and that is not uncommon. Why would that be true? It is because people have more sex on vacation than they do when they are not on vacation. So, high-frequency intercourse is a good solution, it is good medicine, and we highly recommend it.

In our blog, we discuss our low cost services, recent research that impacts your care, and a variety of other relevant topics. We look forward to hearing from you if you would like more information about a particular topic.Since the average age in this study was 39.4, we can assume that half of the patients were younger than 39. Young patients with ultralow or low AMH with diminished ovarian reserve have higher pregnancy rates than the 44 year olds with the same AMH. The age-matched patients in the SART database who had normal anti-Müllerian hormone values had double the success rate.

David Seifer of Oregon Health and Science University and several colleagues including our friend, Valerie Baker, from Stanford, used the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) national database of over 5,000 Standard IVF cycles in a recent study that sheds much light on what a woman can expect if she has ultralow AMH. The average age of these patients was 39.4.Always remember that IVF improves month-to-month pregnancy rates, but very few people are totally infertile. Infertility is a relative concept. Subfertility is really more appropriate as long as the tubes are not blocked and there are sperm present.

Many of our patients, when faced with ultralow or low AMH, are choosing to do Natural IVF or Mini Stim IVF instead of Standard IVF or donor eggs. These are low cost options, including much lower medication costs.Aboulghar, a distinguished practitioner, and colleagues in Egypt, completed a study of patients under age 40. The pregnancy rates were the same when the anti-Müllerian hormone was under 1 as they were when it was over 1.

In this retrospective survey of the national database, the ultralow AMH test result of 0.16 ng/mL was used as criteria for entry into the study. Also, while the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level ideally is less than 10, this group had an FSH average of 15.3 mIU/mL (milli-international units per milliliter), another prognostic indicator for poor results.Move the hot eggs to an ice water bath for a 15-second chill after they come out of the saucepan. The cold shock stops the cooking process so it does not continue beyond where you intended. Leave hard boiled eggs in the bath for two minutes or more to cool completely for easy peeling.

Drain the saucepan and remove the Eggsact timer. Clean the timer in the dishwasher and let it cool and return to its clear color before using it again.
Remove the eggs from the water with a slotted spoon when the dark red color reaches the desired cooking mark on the Eggsact.
