If you see green or blue symbols on the car’s dashboard, this may indicate a system is working properly or a system is on, such as when your high beam headlights are on.
This symbol indicates the engine temperature has exceeded normal limits. Pull over safely, turn off the engine, and let the engine cool off before checking your coolant level. The charging system light (usually a battery symbol or the word “ALT” or “GEN”) illuminates when the vehicle’s electrical system is no longer being supplied power by the alternator. Have your mechanic test the alternator at your earliest convenience.

Why are backup generator lights red?
The red light on the side of a Generac unit means that for whatever reason, the unit is NOT going to run during an outage… In your case, it was simply because the unit was off, but regardless, it would not have have run and was trying to signal that.
If there’s a fault in your airbag system and one or more airbags have been disabled, the airbag fault dashboard light will come on. Contact a repair shop as soon as possible. You can find a list of dealers here.If you see orange or yellow dashboard lights it is reminding you that something needs to be serviced soon, like an oil change, or that something is wrong with your emissions system. Is there a reset button on a generator?
Reset breakers are located on the control box of your generator along with the main on/off switch and main breakers. Reset breakers protect the circuit from surges. When your generator experiences a surge, these breakers need to be pushed in to be reset. Overtime, reset breakers need be replaced if they become weak.
If you compiled a list of all the dashboard warning lights used on all makes and models of cars, you’d end up with about 480 different symbols and indicators. There are several common car and truck warning lights that you should be aware of when driving. Make sure to check your owner’s manual for your vehicle’s specific dashboard warning lights. This dashboard light comes on when a problem affecting your vehicle’s exhaust emissions causes your car’s computer system to trigger a repair code. If red, pull over safely, turn off the engine, and contact a repair shop immediately.

What causes a generator to stop working?
The most common causes of a generator producing no power are the loss of residual magnetism in the alternator and a failed AVR or another excitation component. If the voltage is around 50-70V on each phase, then it is likely the AVR needs replacement.
Many drivers are familiar with the low fuel indicator light. When you have less than two gallons of fuel left in your gas tank, this symbol with appear to let you know it’s time to find a gas station. When one of your tires is underinflated by 25%, the tire pressure warning indicator will light up. Stop and check your tire pressure on each tire to determine which is low so you can get it properly filled to continue driving.

You might notice a brake system dashboard warning light when the parking brake is on. If so, there’s a problem with the braking system, anti-lock brake system (ABS) or the brake fluid is low. Contact a repair shop as soon as possible to have your brakes checked.
If you see a red light on the car’s dashboard, this means there’s a safety issue or something is seriously wrong with your car. Safely pull over, turn off the engine, and call a repair service or shop to see if your car is safe to drive or if it needs service and you need a tow.We proudly design and assemble all of our generators in the United States. How do I reset my Generac generator?
Depending on the age and model of your Generac, it may NOT have an “ENTER” button on your controller, so just turn the generator to the “OFF” position. This will reset the controller and/or clear the fault. Cached
If you open your generator, the control panel interface will cycle between two error messages. The first indicates that the generator has stopped due to an alarm from Error Code 2800:Finally, press the green “AUTO” button to set the generator in fully automatic system operation (allows the generator to automatically start and exercises the generator according to the exercise timer). If an auxiliary shutdown switch is activated, the control panel interface displays an “Auxiliary Shutdown” alarm and the red LED “Alarm” light illuminates. The generator will not start if either switch is OPEN (O). The generator will not start if the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is OPEN (O symbol), and will instead activate an “Auxiliary Shutdown” alarm. So, the generator won’t run and will trigger error code E2800 if the O symbol of the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is pressed down.Did this guide help you fix your Generac Generator with Error Code 2800? Have any other Generac generator issues you need help with? Let me know in the comments below! We purchased a 22KW Home Standby Generator from Generac a few years ago, and it remains one of the best investments we’ve made in our house. With three young children in an area that is prone to losing power, keeping all the lights on and devices powered 24/7 is essential!

How do you reboot a generator?
Correct the load by unplugging all appliances from the receptacles and press the circuit protector button to reset, followed by the Overload Reset button. AC power will be restored immediately. The overload reset button is available for a maximum of five times for each full start of the generator.
After ensuring that one or both Auxiliary Shutdown Switches are pressed down to the CLOSED (| symbol) position, the control panel interface will prompt you to clear the alarm/error with the following message:

What is the indicator light on a generator?
Light is located on the right side of your unit. And usually comes in three different colors. Green is ready to run a flashing.
I was first alerted to the fact that the generator was no longer running via Generac’s Mobile Link app. After opening the app, I saw the following error message:

It is highly unlikely that this interior Auxiliary Shutdown Switch would have been accidentally flipped since it located under the lid of the generator (and hopefully you lock the lid of your generator too!). Still, it never hurts to check this switch too.

If the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is already in the CLOSED (| symbol) position, then the switch is either faulty or the wiring to the switch is faulty. In this case, you’ll need to call a professional to get the generator serviced. We had a Generac error message 2800. And following your instructions worked like a charm. Thank you, thank you. From the snowy Sierra winter of 2023. (We must have knocked into the auxiliary switch while shoveling out. Agree this is a design flaw to an otherwise great product!) Thanks again.

Why is my Generac not coming on?
There are a variety of reasons as to why your pressure washer may not start. Some of these include, a dirty air filter, lack of or old fuel, problems with the spark plug wire’s connection or a bad spark plug, water in the fuel or an excessively rich fuel mixture, or the choke is in the ON position.
Simply press the blue MANUAL button, and the generator should crank up and run. The control panel will indicate it is in Manual operation with a blue LED light:

I’ll be honest, I was quite surprised by how easily the exterior Auxiliary Shutdown Switch can be flipped. I hope that future models of Generac generators either require more pressure and force to flip this switch, or have an enclosure around the switch to prevent accidental presses.

While you’re technically done and the problem has been solved, I like to run the generator in Manual mode for a minute or two. Especially if the generator has not been running or following its exercise schedule for a little while, it’s always good to make sure it cranks and starts up.
Generac generators that are 16 kW or greater have a secondary Auxiliary Shutdown Switch located inside the generator – right by the control panel interface:Error Code 2800 is caused by flipping the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch (which probably happened accidentally). All models of Generac generators have an Auxiliary Shutdown Switch on the exterior of the generator. Our model’s Auxiliary Shutdown Switch is located on the back of the generator, in the top-left corner:

Hi, I’m Peter! Here you’ll find guides, tutorials, and commentary to all of life’s projects. Explore project categories below, or browse all projects here. One day – about a year after being installed and running smoothly with no issues – our generator shut down and gave a 2800 error code. If this happens to you, there is nothing wrong with your generator and no need to get it serviced! All that happened is one of the auxiliary shutdown switches was accidentally flipped to the off position.

Reading these error messages (particularly since the Mobile Link app indicates that the generator needs to be serviced), you might think that something seriously wrong has happened to your generator. Rest assured, your generator is fine! Here’s how to fix Error Code 2800.Children using the generator for a game of hide-and-seek might brush up against and flip the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch. Or a bouncing ball might accidentally flip the switch. In our case, a leaf blower accidentally aimed too high was enough to flip the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch!

Why is the indicator light red?
If you see a red light on the car’s dashboard, this means there’s a safety issue or something is seriously wrong with your car. Safely pull over, turn off the engine, and call a repair service or shop to see if your car is safe to drive or if it needs service and you need a tow.
Most commonly, the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch on the back of the generator is the culprit behind Error Code 2800. And sure enough, somehow this switch had accidentally been pressed on our generator!Generac generators that are 16 kW or greater have a secondary Auxiliary Shutdown Switch located inside the generator – right by the control panel interface. I’ve highlighted this additional switch in the below picture as an FYI:

Whenever you’re ready, you can place the generator back into fully automatic system operation by pressing the green “AUTO” button. The generator will stop running and the control panel will look like this again:
According to the owner’s manual, all Generac generators are equipped with an external means of shutting down the generator via an auxiliary shutdown switch. This switch is located on the exterior of the generator back panel, and shuts down the generator and disables restarts:

To fix error code 2800, simply set the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch to the CLOSED (I symbol) position by pressing down the CLOSED (| symbol) side of the switch:
Until then, there’s little that can be done to prevent this error from happening. Knowledge is your best bet here. Just be aware of anything going on around your generator and know that the Auxiliary Shutdown Switch can be easily flipped.

If your generator doesn’t have a PMG system, then it is almost certainly a a self-excited alternator. These rely on the residual magnetism of the alternator, left from it being run previously, to build up its initial voltage.
The most common causes of a generator producing no power are the loss of residual magnetism in the alternator and a failed AVR or another excitation component. If the voltage is around 50-70V on each phase, then it is likely the AVR needs replacement. if the voltage is 0-5V per phase, it is probably a loss of residual magnetism.Sometimes in extreme cold, you might notice the red light on your Generac Generator – DON’T PANIC! Winter temperatures can cause your battery to freeze up. Instead of calling in one of our technicians, you have the opportunity to resolve the situation yourself. Just follow these steps and/or watch our YouTube video below to see just what to do.Check the VDC on the battery as well as the controller to make sure they are the same. If the voltage is less than 12.5 VDC, recharge the battery. If the voltage is over 12.5 VDC, check the charge circuit for operation. If your home standby is displaying this error code, resetting the controller and restarting your unit may do the trick. If your unit does not start after two automatic attempts, there is an issue. Make sure the gas to your generator is turned on. If the handle is lined up with the pipe, your gas is on. If your handle is lined across the pipe, this indicates that the gas is turned off. If the gas is on and your unit is still not working or is running rough, contact an authorized service dealer.Looking for more? What color should light be on Generac generator?
The yellow light on a Generac home backup generator is a factory set maintenance reminder light. If the light is partially yellow and partially green, it means that the generator is ready to run, but it is time for yearly maintenance.
When your home standby is displaying this error, the first thing to check is your oil level. If oil is needed, add oil per recommendations in your owner’s manual. Be careful not to overfill the engine. If the oil level is good and your unit is still not working, a service call is needed. This code can be set off when your controller does not detect the correct RPM. If your unit is displaying this code, you will need to contact an authorized service dealer. Your unit shows this code when you controller senses an overload condition. The first thing to do is remove the load. Load shedding should be installed to prevent this from happening in the future. If you remove the load and the problem persists, a service call is needed. Just let me say that this encounter has been entirely professional and most helpful. To reset the alarm, put the generator into the ‘Off’ mode and hit the enter key twice. This will clear the alarm and leave the generator sitting in the off mode.

All generators require periodic maintenance, such as oil and filter changes, to ensure maximum performance for years of reliable service. Refer to the owner’s manual for routine maintenance procedures and schedules.

Essential Circuit Coverage – Generac takes the guesswork out of sizing by offering prepackaged Guardian Series generator systems. The generator is paired with a transfer switch containing a predetermined number of circuits based on the generator’s kW power rating. Each circuit is directly connected to a matched circuit on the home’s main circuit breaker panel, providing electricity to that specific appliance or area of the home.
With PWRview, you can keep tabs on your home’s energy consumption and solar generation. Energy insights are accessible right from your pocket so you never miss a thing. If you need support or assistance, Generac is here to help. The force of the high-pressure spray loosens dirt and flushes it away. On more professional-grade models, the spray is even powerful enough to strip paint, which is useful in paint preparation. You can use many detergents with a power washer, too, for even more effective cleaning. And there are accessories you can buy that make cleaning even easier.

Complete Whole House Coverage – Easily cover every circuit in your home by pairing one of Generac’s larger kW units and the proper transfer switch to provide full coverage. No circuit is ever left uncovered, so every appliance is available every minute.
The real measure of a pressure washer’s cleaning power can be found by multiplying PSI by GPM. The higher the number, the greater the cleaning power. For example, a garden hose delivering water at 50 PSI and 5 GPM has a cleaning power of only 250. A pressure washer, however, delivering water at 2500 PSI and 2.3 GPM has a cleaning power of 5750.

A portable water pump is an outdoor power tool that utilizes a centrifugal pump to move a large amount of water rapidly. A gasoline-driven engine will drive an impeller inside a pump to create a flow of water between a source and the intended location. The source of water can vary from ponds to lakes, swimming pools, ditches, standing containers, and more. The intended location can be just as varied.
Since 1959, Generac has been designing and manufacturing backup power generators for residential, commercial and industrial applications. We have grown to be the world’s largest provider of residential backup generators, selling five times as many generators as all of our competitors combined. Generac’s broad product line is available through the industry’s largest network of independent generator dealers, retailers and wholesalers. To learn more, visit our About Us page or connect with us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Google+.

The most logical way to determine your needs is to envision your home without power. Some outages may be short in duration, while others could last for days or weeks. What would your family miss during an outage? With some basic information, you can determine an estimated size by using our Generator Sizing Calculator. Finally, think about how much cleaning you will be doing. If you’re cleaning a number of items, or if you need to clean a large area, you might want to consider a unit with a higher GPM. More water means more cleaning power, and a higher GPM will make the job go faster.

An automatic backup generator is a back up electrical system that operates whether you are home or away. Within seconds of an outage, it automatically supplies power directly to your home’s electrical circuit breaker box. After utility power returns, the generator shuts itself off and waits for the next outage. It operates on natural gas or liquid propane gas and sits outside just like a central air conditioning unit. See our “How It Works” video for more information.
The transfer switch is an essential part of the home backup system. Its primary function is to prevent your home from being powered by utility and generator power at the same time. If utility power is lost, the generator control panel senses the loss and tells the transfer switch to close off the connection with utility and complete the connection with the generator so it can begin providing power to the home. Above 32°F, use SAE 30. Below 40°F and down to -10°F, use 10W-30. Synthetic 5W-30 can be used in all temperatures. Oil should be changed after the first 20-30 hours of operation and every 100 hours of run time thereafter. Unlike other engines used in backup power generation, Generac G-FORCE® engines are designed specifically for generators. They are engineered to run for the long periods of time required during a severe power outage or on a job site. They utilize the same type of pressurized oil lubrication used to give automobile engines long and trouble-free lives.A pressure washer is an outdoor power tool that makes cleaning easier by using a high-pressure spray of water to clean a surface. A gasoline engine or electric motor drives a pump, which is supplied by your home’s water supply. The water enters the pump at about 50 PSI, is compressed (and thus pressurized) inside the pump, and exits the pump at as much as several thousand PSI, depending upon the unit. This high-pressure water travels through a hose to a spray gun. The nozzle at the end of the spray gun directs the high-pressure spray as you clean.

Please refer to your owner’s manual to determine the solution for each problem. If you no longer have your owner’s manual, visit our support page and enter your product’s serial number.
Managed Whole House Coverage – You can get more coverage with less generator, up to whole house coverage, by pairing a smaller generator with one of Generac’s load shedding options. This creates a managed power solution where non-essential circuits are shed when the generator approaches maximum capacity. They are cycled back on when essential circuits no longer require power, so all circuits receive power at different times. For assembly instructions, please refer to your owner’s manual. If you no longer have your owner’s manual, please visit our support page and enter your serial number.

Next, ask what you want to clean. If you’re looking to simply take the dirt and grime off the driveway or patio furniture, you can use a unit with a relatively low pressure—perhaps 2500 PSI. If, however, you plan on scrubbing mold and mildew off concrete, or prepping a house for painting, you should consider a unit with a higher pressure.
Transfer switches are available through our Generac Authorized Dealers or through a local retail store. An in-home assessment can also be a great place to start if you’re not sure what size you need. Click here to schedule a free in-home assessment for an automatic home standby generator. The first question you should ask yourself is where you intend to use the pressure washer—at home or at work. A pressure washer used primarily at home probably doesn’t need to be as powerful as one that is used on a job site. Around the house, for example, you shouldn’t need more than 3000 PSI. To be fully productive on the job site, though, you probably need at least 3000 PSI.
