On December 13, 2021, Piker was banned from Twitch for one week for using the racial epithet “cracker” repeatedly on stream. Piker argued that the term should not be considered a slur since a person using it is “powerless” and they “are doing it as someone who has been historically oppressed blowing off steam.” He further contended “cracker” is not a slur in the same way as other racial slurs, stating that “It’s something I’ve talked about so many times because it’s like white boys love fucking saying, ‘Cracker is the same as the n-word,’ It’s really stupid. The etymology of the word is different. … It comes from ‘whip cracker.’ So the power is still in the hands of the white person in that situation, whereas the n-word is dehumanizing.” However, the exact history and etymology of the word is still debated.Gaming website Kotaku selected Piker as one of their “Gamers of the Year” for 2020, citing him as a major figure in the mainstreaming of political commentary on Twitch, a platform which in the past was seen as discouraging to political discussion. Piker won a Streamy in the News category at the 10th annual awards in 2020, and was nominated again in the same category for the 2021 event. In 2022, Piker was nominated in the categories News, Just Chatting, and Streamer of the Year, winning the News award for the second time and being nominated for three consecutive years. At the event he also presented the Creator of the Year award alongside Avani Gregg, which was won by MrBeast for the third year in a row. At the 2023 Streamer Awards, Piker was nominated for Best Just Chatting Streamer and Streamer of the Year, winning the former. Outlets dedicated to video game culture and youth culture have covered Piker’s streams positively. In particular, journalists have noted his ability to “combine information and entertainment,” and to approach left-wing political coverage in a way that is relatable and accessible to Twitch viewers, who may feel out of touch with cable news. Some authors also cite Piker’s vulgar, animated style of expression and his physical appearance as notable factors behind his popularity. Piker created and hosted another TYT series in 2019 called Agitprop with Hasan Piker. In January 2020, he announced his departure from TYT and his intention to focus on his career as a Twitch streamer.

He became a popular left-wing political commentator, invited to appear on Fox News’s The Issue Is and the political podcast Chapo Trap House. His YouTube channel features highlights of his streams, and in 2022 reached over 1,000,000 subscribers. Piker also streams gameplay and commentary of video games on his Twitch channel. Sometimes Piker will role-play as “Hank Pecker”, a caricature of a right-wing redneck.
During his senior year of college in 2013, Piker interned for The Young Turks (TYT), a progressive news show and network co-founded by his uncle, Cenk Uygur. After graduating, Piker was hired by the network’s ad sales and business department. He asked to host the show when a fill-in was needed, and later became a host and producer. Uygur described his nephew as “magnetic” though “rough around the edges” at first.

While Samantha looks like she’s cosplaying T.S. Eliot twilight-zoned into suburbia, it is bizarrely entertaining. I’d go as far as to say even a little bit chic. When I posted the Hasan Piker Ideologie Himbo Fitness Shirt Furthermore, I will do this image to Instagram, it sparked a bevy of responses regarding Samantha’s look. The archive researcher @jordenautumn_ commented that it was giving her “’90s cyberpunk giving a little Wales Bonner and a little JPG.” She isn’t wrong. It is reminiscent of the Fall 2002 Jean Paul Gaultier show, with the androgynous Omahyra Mota strutting down the runway in a men’s suit with a cigarette hanging from her mouth. There is also a bit of John Galliano for Dior in Spring 2008, when women walked the runway in three-piece suits (albeit Galliano’s versions were a bit more slinky and sexy). Today, Samantha’s suit is reminiscent of not only that slouchy cool of Wales Bonner, but also the artful bagginess of fellow London-based label Eftychia and the reworked traditional suiting by Ella Boucht. In fact, it seems like something belle of the street Bella Hadid could step out in: Back in March 2020, she walked out in Paris wearing a three-piece suit by Dilara Findikoglu, sans a jacket.Needed a t-shirt printed for a cosplay i was doing. Very impressed at the value for money. The site was super easy to navigate and i was able to design and order a very reasonably priced t-shirt in super fast time. It was delivered quickly and i was very happy with the end result.

Her hair is done up in a braid crown like the former prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko, and she arrives at a pregnant friend’s door with a cigarette in her mouth. I can imagine the writer’s room coming up with Samantha’s grown-up look. “She’s a weird writer. What do writers wear? Let’s put her in a big ol’ three-piece suit and give her a cigarette.”

The merch brand, which he launched last year, exclusively features clothing made in the U.S. and by unionized manufacturers. They may not be the cheapest T-shirts in the world, but they’re at least ones you don’t have to feel bad about buying.Hasan Piker knows his audience. He knows that, as a certified Big Boy™, he can use the power of his sex appeal for good. That’s why, back in May, he decided to raise money for abortion access after the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. He promised all of us that if he raised $100,000, he would do the viral watermelon trick whereby people attempt to crush a watermelon with their thighs. After hitting $115,000 in donations, Hasan gave the sickos (myself included) what they wanted, and posted a TikTok of himself easily crushing the fruit between his tree trunks. My favorite comment on the video? “We must stay focused sisters, we must stay focused.”But perhaps the biggest Ideologie launch was Hasan’s Himbo Fitness line, which speaks to me as a self-identifying himbo and gym rat. The line features an absolutely shredded illustration of Hasan curling an impressive amount of weight or flexing like an anime character, and I would very much like the whole collection to wear to the gym, please.
Like him or not, Hasan Piker is the reason many young folks know about politics today, and as an out-and-proud Hasanabi head—I watch his streams every day…notice me, Hasan—it only seems fitting that we look back at the year in Hasan Piker.
The year started off strong with two of Hasan’s favorite people to shit on joining forces in what may be the most asinine video ever uploaded on this cursed internet: Jordan Peterson on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Peterson, infamous for being a Kermit-voiced transphobe who teaches teenage boys to pick up their spunk socks off the floor, is in an absolute state during his time on The Joe Rogan Experience. In denying climate change, Peterson attempts to invoke bird biology, ants versus grasshoppers, farmers, economic uncertainty, the profit incentive, and a whole host of other straws he grasps at for an entire stream. “The most damaging work he has ever done,” Hasan wrote in the description for a YouTube compilation of his reacts to the podcast. Little did he know how wild this year would be…Hasan, who was playing paintball at an event hosted by fellow Twitch streamer QTCinderella, was filmed hoping out loud that he’d be able to livestream his reaction to her death. “She’s a relic of the monarchy,” he says, defending his blatant dislike of her before cheering at confirmation that she died. “Get fucked, Queen,” he said. Shortly after the video went up, Hasan shared a screenshot on Twitter stating his account was banned. “First they came for Andrew Tate, now me smh.”Before becoming a top Twitch streamer, Hasan was a member of the Young Turks, and was probably most well-known as the Woke Bae who debated everyone from the likes of Ann Coulter (hiss) to Larry Elder. Though he’s recently been more outspoken about the problems of debate culture, every real Hasnabi Head loves a classic Hasan debate sesh—and no one was more rocked up than me when he took on known piece of shit Andrew Tate.
Maybe people were mad that he bought what was, ostensibly, the same car an old, white plastic surgeon would buy to zip around Hollywood Boulevard in. Maybe they were mad that he livestreamed himself buying the $200,000 whip, which seems especially egregious if you believe that a socialist streamer shouldn’t be rich. We could have this argument until we’re as blue as Hasan’s Porsche in the face—I’m just happy daddy got his dream car.
In case it wasn’t clear, Hasan is not a liberal—but that doesn’t mean he won’t acknowledge Dark Brandon (President Joe Biden) when he gets a rare dub. In August of this year, Biden announced that he was canceling $10,000 in student loan debt, or $20,000 for those who have received a Pell Grant. Not only did Hasan praise the president for finally delivering on a campaign promise (while pointing out that the relief should have come a long time ago and should be for a lot more money), but he made sure to show his viewers how to get that relief if they qualified.
