Tractor-trailers are usually loaded with thousands of pounds of cargos, making them significantly larger and heavier than other vehicles involved in an accident. If the truck overturns, it may potentially spill its cargo with a serious risk of fire.Certainly many accidents are not avoidable, for example when the truck driver must respond to a sudden hazard. But driving prudently and keeping lots of space between your vehicle and the truck ahead can reduce your risk of being involved in this type of accident.Jackknifing is a dangerous situation when a tractor-trailer skids and the trailer swings out to one side. A truck will jackknife when its wheels lock up because of wet or slippery conditions. The tractor and its trailer then form an angle that resembles an open jackknife with its protective handle. If the jackknifing occurs when the truck is moving at high speed, a rollover may occur.

Chief Revell said there were at least 50 law enforcement officers in the immediate area, but they still need the community to help in preventing crime. “There were many people who knew people were standing in the parking lot with guns … knew that there was a rifle being held in the parking lot openly,” said Chief Revell. “Nobody in that parking lot chose to tell one of the police officers that were standing within 100 yards of them.”

Despite the numbers, Chief Revell said, overall, Tallahassee is a safe community and he is excited about the direction the department is heading in 2023.“That’s an issue we know where we have to have our community say enough’s enough,” said Chief Revell. He said if you see criminal or suspicious activity taking place, you can contact law enforcement anonymously, and that could help cut down on the number of crimes.

In 2022, TPD continued its work in targeting “hot spot” locations. Chief Revell said these are areas where they know drug and gang activity are likely to occur more often. He said the vast majority of Tallahassee crimes are directly related to drugs.
Two major shootings shocked the community. In October, Demario Murray was killed and eight others were hurt during a shootout at Half Time Liquors on Pensacola Street.A shooting at a FAMU basketball court also sparked concern within the surrounding community. Chief Revell said both of these incidents involved people with ties to other areas. TPD works closely with other law enforcement agencies to track gang members who may be committing crimes in different jurisdictions, as well as in Tallahassee.

The goal of a Bike Box is to create a safe location for cyclists on the road at intersections in an effort to prevent bike and car collisions. The life-saving benefits of awareness and safety for cyclists in our community is the driving force behind this project. Both motorists and cyclists need to be aware of one another and share the road in a safe, responsible manner.”If the accident does not meet the above listed criteria, you can report the crash online or you may download the report and complete for insurance purposes. If you need the assistance of a police officer, please call 606-5800 if it is not an emergency and 911 if it is an emergency. So you are about to head home after a long day of work, and you think that your favorite roadway may be relatively free of traffic congestion. Well, what if you are wrong, and it takes twice as long to get home than on the alternate route? There is no need to gamble. The Tallahassee Driver Information System is a feature of our state-of-the-art Tallahassee Advanced Traffic Management System (TATMS). The Bike Box concept was introduced and supported by the cycling community during community meetings regarding Moving Tallahassee: Cars Optional plan, which was discussed with the community during the past year. The city plans to work with the cycling community to potentially identify other intersections for future locations of bike boxes.

Statistical data from progressive, cycling friendly communities, like Portland, Oregon, and Austin, Texas, show that bike boxes reduce the number of collisions between motorists turning right and cyclists going straight or turning right, better known as “right hook” collisions.
The Bike Box is highly visible when installed. It consists of a green area with a white bicycle symbol inside placed between the white stop bar and the pedestrian crosswalk. Additionally, a portion of the existing bike lane leading up to the intersection is painted green with white bicycle symbols to indicate to motorists they are approaching an intersection with a Bike Box.Sie können Ihre Einstellungen jederzeit ändern, indem Sie auf unseren Websites und Apps auf den Link „Datenschutz- und Cookie-Einstellungen“ oder „Datenschutz-Dashboard“ klicken.
