Their signal is too weak to talk to the men on the boat, their oxygen supply is fairly limited, and they’re surrounded by sharks.As for 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, it follows a group of teenagers who dive to search for underwater Mayan ruins, only to find themselves targeted by a group of white sharks.In the first movie, sisters Lisa (Mandy Moore) and Kate (Claire Holt) take a vacation in Mexico and decide to go cage diving, hoping to catch a glimpse of the local sea life.The closest real-life story is of Tom and Eileen Lonergan, an American couple who were abandoned in the sea while scuba diving. They were never found and presumed dead, and their terrifying tale inspired one of the best shark movies: Open Water. Sisters Lisa and Kate are on vacation in Mexico after Lisa’s boyfriend recently broke up with her. They decide to go watch sharks from a diving cage with two local men. At the docks, Lisa is wary of the boat and its owner, Captain Taylor. Kate has had one lesson in diving, but Lisa has never dived. They lie to Taylor and tell him that they are both experienced divers. Unbeknownst to everyone, the winch supporting the cage is unsecured. As the third flare goes out, Taylor yells for them to drop their gear and make a break for the surface, and they swim as fast as they can. One of the sharks bites Lisa’s leg but she escapes. Both women make it to the boat but Lisa is attacked again. She sticks her fingers in the shark’s eye and it releases her. The men pull the sisters onto the boat, saving them, and start patching up their wounds when they see that the shark has bitten off half of Lisa’s leg. The film was released theatrically in the United Kingdom on 26 July 2017 & United States on 16 June 2017, and spent about $30 million on prints and advertising. Original distributor Dimension Films had initially set a North American DVD and VOD release date for 2 August 2016. However, on 25 July 2016, Variety reported that Dimension had sold the rights to Entertainment Studios. Entertainment Studios cancelled the 2 August home release and instead committed to a theatrical release in the United States in summer 2017. The working title for the film was 47 Meters Down, which Dimension had changed to In the Deep for their home release, but upon acquiring the film Entertainment Studios reverted to the original title. Dimension had already sent out screeners and shipped DVDs to retailers before the deal took place. The DVDs, under the title In the Deep, were recalled. However, several retailers broke the street date, and a handful of physical copies were sold and have since turned up on eBay as collectors’ items.

47 Meters Down grossed $44.3 million in the United States and Canada and $17.4 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $61.7 million, against a production budget of $5.5 million.

Lisa becomes disoriented about her position. Javier attempts to usher her back towards safety but he is killed by a great white shark. Lisa takes his spear gun and the winch cable and swims back to the cage. The spare cable is attached but it snaps and the cage sinks back down, landing on Lisa’s leg and pinning her. Kate tells Taylor they are low on air and Lisa is trapped. He sends air tanks down and tells them the coast guard is an hour out. He also warns that the second tank may cause nitrogen narcosis, which can lead to hallucinations. Kate finds three flares to signal the coast guard. As she returns to the cage, she is attacked and (presumably) devoured by a great white shark. Lisa uses the spear from the spear gun to pull a tank toward her and dons it, getting more air.

The film was released in the United States on 16 June 2017, and in the United Kingdom on 26 July 2017. It grossed $62 million worldwide against a budget of about $5 million.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 53% based on 161 reviews, with an average rating of 5.4/10. The website’s critical consensus reads, “47 Meters Down doesn’t take its terrifying premise quite as far as it should, but its toothy antagonists still offer a few thrills for less demanding genre enthusiasts.” On Metacritic the film has a weighed average score of 52 out of 100, based on 24 critics, indicating “mixed or average reviews”. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of “C” on an A+ to F scale, while PostTrak reported filmgoers gave it a 55% overall positive score.It is revealed that Lisa has been hallucinating all this time due to nitrogen narcosis and that she is still at the bottom of the ocean with her leg pinned under the cage, with Kate gone. As Coast Guard divers arrive to rescue her and carry her to the surface, Lisa begins coming out of her hallucination, calling out to Kate. When Lisa looks around for Kate, she realizes that her sister is not present and begins crying, remembering that Kate was killed by the great white shark.In North America, 47 Meters Down was released alongside All Eyez on Me, Rough Night and Cars 3, and was initially projected to gross around $5 million from 2,300 theatres in its opening weekend. It made $4.5 million on its first day (including $735,000 from Thursday night previews), increasing weekend estimates to $11 million. It went on to debut to $11.5 million, finishing 5th at the box office. In its second weekend, the film dropped 34%, grossing $7.4 million and finishing 4th at the box office. It was the second highest-grossing indie film of 2017.Kate is injured and her blood is attracting more sharks. Lisa uses her BCD to lift up the cage, freeing her leg, and she swims to Kate. Due to the nature of Kate’s wounds, the sisters decide to swim to the surface, using one of the flares to scare off the sharks. At the 20-meter mark, Taylor reminds them they must wait five minutes to decompress and avoid the bends. Kate accidentally drops the second flare and lights the third, discovering that they are surrounded by sharks.

Taylor sends Lisa and Kate down, with masks that allow them to talk to him on the surface and to each other. They are soon surrounded by great white sharks, but the winch boom breaks free and the cage sinks to the ocean floor 47 metres down and out of communication range with the boat. Something about these 3 movies really did it for me. I also watched “12 Feet Deep” for free on YouTube, it was okay. I guess I just really dig woman vs. the elements type movies lol, my sister recommended “Frozen” (the ski lift movie) and I plan to watch soon. Any others? With some of the best jump scares in the genre, it’s an all-around thrilling ride with compelling characters.

To be clear, this Frozen is not to be confused with the much-loved Disney film aimed at families. As the temperature drops and hungry wolves circle below, the film follows three skier friends as they sneak onto a chairlift for a night ski. Unfortunately, the chairlift breaks down, leaving the friends stranded in the air.

Even though it wasn’t a huge hit, 47 Meters Down was still a fun ride for fans of the spooky thriller genre. Seeing people in small spaces being terrorized by sharks can be a lot of fun on the big screen. There are plenty of other scary movies that fit this description as well.With Blake Lively as the lead, The Shallows is another shark survival story with a strong female protagonist. On a remote beach, she portrays a young woman who goes surfing but is attacked by a huge shark and stranded on a rock 200 yards from shore. This is yet another instance of a film making the most of a constrained setting. Against the backdrop of a rising tide and a circling shark, Lively engages in a tense power struggle with the enormous predator. After a plane crash, a group of survivors is left stranded in a frozen wasteland in this Liam Neeson thriller. A pack of wolves pursues them as they scramble to find a way out of their predicament. It’s a brutal, witty, and tense rollercoaster.The Descent is the scariest film on this list, and it’s also one of the best films of the year so far. Several female friends go on a getaway to learn about a new system of giving. However, when they get lost in the cave, they run into the terrifying creatures that live there.

There are also deadly and undiscovered sea creatures lurking out there, as if the ocean’s depths weren’t enough of a challenge. Stewart is terrific as the film’s lead, and the action sequences are top-notch.Frozen, like 47 Meters Down, begins as a light-hearted outing with friends and devolves into a terrifying experience. In addition to making great use of its small setting, the film also includes some of the most gory depictions of frostbite that viewers won’t forget any time soon.

The alligator horror film Crawl, which came out recently, is another noteworthy creature feature. In the midst of a hurricane in Florida, a young woman goes to check on her father and discovers him in the crawl space underneath the house. With water pouring in from all sides, an alligator family makes its way into the house and begins to hunt.Some of these films deal with the movie’s killer predator. Movies like 47 Meters Down, which use the idea of being trapped in a small space with danger lurking all around, and others that are simply excellent survival tales should appeal to fans of both films.

Similarly to 47 Meters Down, this film does an excellent job of making its characters feel helpless and alone in the face of danger. After that, they’ll have to rely on their own resources to get themselves out of this jam. Even though there are no invading aliens or deadly space sharks in Gravity, the film succeeds as a compelling tale of human survival.

Any movie that gets a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes is destined for cult-classic greatness, especially when audiences seem to really enjoy it.

Plot: A government-backed science project goes awry and unleashes great white sharks on California’s shorelines. If that doesn’t sell you on this pure-camp B-movie, then you should know that the head shark’s goal is to blow up the Golden Gate Bridge by unleashing a neutron bomb. You’re welcome.

His dishonesty soon lands him in troubled waters. A star-studded cast leads this box office hit, which was also nominated for an Academy Award. Plot: In Australia, an American couple goes scuba diving and is stranded when their boat leaves them behind. The couple soon finds out that, besides being isolated, they are also hunted by killer sharks. If this seems like a worn-out plotline, you might be surprised that the film is based on a true story.Plot: An American navy ship sinks during World War II. 890 crewmen are stranded in the Philippine sea. With no way to get back to shore and sharks circling their location, they have nothing but courage to keep them alive.Plot: A washed-up oceanographer/filmmaker seeks revenge on the shark that killed his partner. You probably won’t find this out-of-the-box pick on any other shark movie lists, and you might even debate whether it’s actually a shark movie. Nevertheless, Wes Anderson’s cult classic is all about Bill Murray’s quest to find (and destroy) a jaguar shark.

Plot: Two prehistoric sea creatures wreak havoc on the California coast to see which one can establish control of the sea. This notorious B-movie began the Mega Shark series and is arguably one of the best so-bad-it’s-good movies you can find.

Plot: B-movie lovers will enjoy this alien invasion/shark movie hybrid about a team of marine researchers who are preyed upon by a nasty group of great white sharks. It’s not always clear whether the filmmakers are aware of how silly the movie is, which typically makes for a better B-movie (all things Sharknado aside).Plot: Seven college friends take a trip to a Louisiana lake, only to be terrorized by a gang of sharks. Though critics originally slated the film, audiences were more accepting of it as a solid addition to the shark movie genre.

Plot: A group of friends is stranded in the ocean after a birthday yacht trip takes a turn for the worst. Unlike its predecessor, “Open Water 2: Adrift” is not a true story, which you’ll probably notice shortly after starting this fun mystery-style take on the shark movie genre.

Plot: Fin returns in this self-aware second installment of the Sharknado film series. This time, floods bring sharks to New York. As tornadoes heighten the drama, Fin and company try to survive the onslaught of sharks that dwarf the one in the first installment. In March 2021, Mediatonic and its parent company, Tonic Games Group, were bought by Epic Games. Epic Games later announced that they will focus on adding cross-platform compatibility for all versions of Fall Guys, utilizing resources from games such as Fortnite that became available after acquisition by Epic Games. Fall Guys began its initial prototyping process with a small team, growing to 30 people during development. Initial progress on individual minigames was slow which caused the team to worry that there wouldn’t be enough content for launch. A turning point came when the team made a group of pillars that “Took the opinions of people out of the occasion” and allowed the developers to “kill ideas faster”. Such pillars include ensuring a minigame was “50-50 chaos and skill” and that a level had to be “different every time”. Inspired by game shows, and differentiating from first-person shooter battle royale games, Mediatonic focused on gameplay variety. By presenting the player with several, randomized rounds of game modes, Mediatonic hoped to recreate the experience of being on a game show. To help keep the “spirit of playground games and game shows”, Mediatonic created an internal rule that game modes needed to be explained in three words. Over time, the game underwent numerous other changes. The player count was decreased from 100 to 60, because overpopulated games “stopped being readable or fun”. In testing, Mediatonic noted that players overestimated the number of players, stating “we didn’t need as many players as we thought to create the crowds we wanted the gameplay to include.” On 11 October 2022, the hashtag #savefallguys started trending on Twitter. This was to get Mediatonic’s attention and ask the company to fix numerous problems that fans have had with the game including lack of round variety, bugs, sub par events, prices in the in-game shop, how skill based matchmaking is implemented, and more. On 15 November 2022, the Fall Guys Twitter account stated that in order for the game to stay stable, some rounds will be “vaulted” and rounds will be rotated in and out of the vault. Fans criticized this move citing how removing pre existing rounds doesn’t help anything and makes the game lose its replayability. This sparked another hashtag, #unvaultfallguys starting on 20 January 2023. The game was released by Devolver Digital for PlayStation 4 and Windows on 4 August 2020. Following their acquisition of Mediatonic, the publishing rights were transferred to Epic Games. Subsequently, the game was made free-to-play on 21 June 2022 and released on additional platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, with full cross-platform play support among all platforms. As part of the transition, the game adapted a seasonal battle pass system for its monetization, offering avatar customizations to players. In February 2021, Fall Guys was announced for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, scheduled for mid 2021. However, in April 2021, these versions of the game were delayed to 2022, citing greater focus on cross-compatibility among all versions of the game. Season 6 added Sweet Thieves, where one team is invisible (only being visible when moving fast) while the other team is not. The invisible team (Thieves) needs to bring sweets to the goals while the other team (Guardians) tries to prevent them by using the grabbing mechanic to capture the Thieves and put them in a jail. A button can be pressed every 30 seconds to remove the jail barrier.On 18 November 2021, Mediatonic announced that Epic Games accounts will be required in season 6 allowing cross-platform progression between PS4 and Steam and the ability to have custom names for Steam players. On 22 February 2022, Mediatonic released an update adding Lobbies and Friends lists. This uses the Epic Overlay system that games like Fortnite or Rocket League have to invite anyone on any platform via Epic Games Accounts.

The same season also added 2 new shows, one called ‘The Vault’, which features all rounds regardless of vaulted status in one show, which is only available in Custom Lobbies, and another called “Xtreme Party”, which is a single player version of the show “Xtreme Solo Show”, both rounds have the rule that you cannot respawn.

By 26 August 2020, more than 7 million copies of Fall Guys had been sold on Steam, and it was the most downloaded monthly PS Plus game of all time. By November 2020, the game had reached more than 10 million sales on Steam. According to firm Superdata the game’s online revenue for PC in its first month was $185 million from 8.2 million players, making it the biggest launch on that platform since Overwatch by those metrics. Multiple outlets described the game’s popularity as a “phenomenon”. In December 2020, Mediatonic confirmed sales of more than 11 million copies on PC.

The conception of what became Fall Guys began when Mediatonic was discussing another project in January 2018. Lead designer Joe Walsh said that it reminded him of game shows such as Takeshi’s Castle and Total Wipeout. He drew from that inspiration to create a pitch document for what would become Fall Guys. Originally titled Fools’ Gauntlet, (also later under development using the name “Stumble Chums”), Walsh’s pitch featured 100 players competing in a battle royale composed of physical challenges. Creative director Jeff Tanton, while initially skeptical that creating another battle royale game would be successful, was quickly convinced of the game’s potential, and forwarded Walsh’s pitch to Mediatonic’s founders.

Season 4 added a basic daily challenge system, which allowed the user to get rewards for completing tasks in the game. It also added the “Crown Shards” currency, earned by playing in Squad Mode, where a team of four other players cooperates to earn points to progress to the next round, or by completing daily challenges. 60 Crown Shards are automatically converted into 1 Crown. In a mid-season update, they added to ability to host custom shows.

The Chinese company Bilibili announced in August 2020 that it would develop a mobile version for Android and iOS that would be exclusive to China. The deal expired in 2022 and Fall Guys announced that their exclusive content and accounts on Bilibili would be run by Epic from now on.
