The name makes it clear that we use arm sleeves on our arms. They are usually made of elastic material that gently wraps around our arms. A material that wicks sweat away from the body. Sometimes you see a type of arm sleeves that only cover your forearms, but I would recommend the classic compression sleeves that also cover your elbow and most of your biceps.
Then you can see players wearing a different colour arm sleeve on each arm, or just a compression sleeve on one arm. It’s just fashionable to have arm sleeves and I expect to see them even more in the future, not only on amateur players but also volleyball stars will play in them more.I can’t forget that arm sleeves are cool. They are made by the biggest sports equipment manufacturers in many colours and look fantastic. For example, the players of the women’s Brazilian volleyball team often use white arm sleeves, which, when combined with yellow jerseys, white knee socks and white shoes, look amazing.Speaking of problems, I have to mention the forearm pain after receiving hard balls. Every volleyball player encounters this when he starts with volleyball and play bump so after a while our forearms burn. Our skin and the muscles underneath are not used to being exposed to these bounces of the volleyball.

It’s not just in volleyball that pain caused by injury or stress can be reduced with moderate pressure. Compression arm sleeves work similarly to a bandage or brace and provide support for the elbow joint and arm muscles. With reduced stress, there is a greater chance of healing and better training. When the muscles have better circulation it can help a tired and overworked body recover faster from a workout.
Also, you will always have a sweaty long sleeve shirt in a certain color, you can’t mix and match it with another shirt. You will have to throw this long sleeve shirt in the washing machine after practice if you sweat in practice or a game. But arm sleeves are just a tool. I don’t recommend putting everything on arm sleeves and relying on them alone as the miracle cure for all your volleyball problems. They won’t solve your technique problems. You can’t count on wearing arm sleeves to every practice your entire volleyball life. Then what would you do if you forgot them?Don’t think of them that way, think of them as a good servant, but don’t ask for miracles. I hope my tips and reasons to use compression arm sleeves will help you become a better player.

Probably the most popular are arm sleeves from Mizuno, these are used for example by players of the American national volleyball team. You can find a link to them at the bottom of the description, but Nike or Mc David also offer arm sleeves in several colours.Related to this benefit, compression arm sleeves also help increase muscle oxygenation. Muscles need oxygen to function, and the more of it available in the bloodstream, the better their performance. Simply put, when performing any physical activity, compression arm sleeves can help improve overall performance.

Another reason to use volleyball compression arm sleeves is that they can help boost your overall performance. This is because they help increase oxygenation and blood flow to your muscles. More blood and oxygen flowing to your muscles means that your muscles can be used longer without fatigue.
First of all, we need to answer the question of why we should use arm sleeves when we can wear a long shirt for training, which also covers our elbows and forearms. You can see long shirts or even long sleeve jerseys on many girls teams playing student competitions in the USA. In Europe, in the top volleyball leagues, long-sleeved jerseys are not as popular.

When should you not wear compression sleeves?
Do not wear compression sleeves or socks while sleeping! When you’re lying down, or not moving around, your veins don’t have to fight gravity. They don’t have to work very hard to get the blood back to your heart. So, your circulatory system doesn’t need the extra pressure.
Probably the most important function of arm sleeves is to support the muscles and improve blood circulation, which thanks to the use of compression sleeves can be your advantage over other players. Simply put, the main function of compression sleeves is to improve and help regulate blood flow and circulation in the arms. These features are useful in almost any sport, but can be particularly beneficial for many people and different types of training, you also see compression arm sleeves used by runners, football players, basketball players, they are also used by cyclists, but most importantly they help us volleyball players.

Another important reason to use arm sleeves is to prevent getting burned when you fall in the field. I’m sure you know it, in the heat of match you jump for a difficult ball in the field, do everything you can to keep the ball from falling to the ground, you fly through the air, take the ball, but burn your elbow in the fall. You’re glad you took the ball, but on the other hand, now you have to think about the burnt elbow and possible treatment. And just volleyball arm sleeves will help you when you fall, you won’t burn your elbow and you will be able to fully concentrate on your performance.
Since the arm sleeves are smaller, they only cover our arms, so we can combine them better, take them off and use them more often at practice or games. Also, we don’t always have to have arm sleeves on both arms, we can use them individually. We can also wear them only at the beginning of practice to warm up and then take them off, or we can wear them only for serve receptions exercises. They are simply more variable than a long shirt.

Thanks to the compression function, arm sleeves will also protect you from injuries. This is similar to compression shirts. We wear them to keep our body warm, to wick sweat away from our body, and they also help prevent muscle injury. Arm sleeves fulfill the same role, they also keep our arms warm, protect our arm muscles, but in addition help us prevent elbow injuries. Arm sleeves apply gentle pressure to the outer surface of the skin. This results in a gentle increase in blood pressure in the arms, which helps increase blood flow through the entire body. When the heart rate increases, the blood supply will also increase over time, helping to improve oxygen supply and increase energy levels. In a long volleyball match, the longer your body and arms are in good shape, the better your chances of winning. One of the great benefits of using compression arm sleeves is that they help improve blood flow and circulation. It sounds strange because you might think that increased pressure or compression will slow down blood flow, but the opposite is true. In fact, pressure helps to increase blood pressure, thus increasing blood flow.

Over time, after a few practices, this pain diminishes and we don’t encounter it as often. On the other hand, if you’re on the receiving end and you’re passing, say, receptions fired at around 120 kilometers through a serve machine, you can expect your forearms to get a pretty good test. You can find pictures of professional players who have had bruises all over their forearms after such training. And arm sleeves can help you avoid these problems. Compression arm sleeves can also help prevent injuries by limiting over-extension and unnatural movements.
The main difference between arm sleeves and long shirts is that a long sleeve shirt will usually not have as many positive features, which I will describe later in the video, as arm sleeves. When we were attacking a lot at practice, my elbow often hurt, much like a tennis player’s elbow hurts. Most of the time just resting and hitting less helped me, but if you wear arm sleeves you have far less chance of overloading your elbow and subsequent problems. Also, if you already have elbow problems, start wearing arm sleeves and you’ll see that they will help.

Volleyball arm sleeves are slowly becoming an essential part of our volleyball equipment. Why should you use them regularly? What are their benefits? I will share with you 9 reasons why you should consider buying and using arm sleeves regularly.

Roche says the last reason is that it has become fashionable for players to wear the sleeves. Young basketball players and kids have been spending money to buy the sleeves. Some of the players sport the one-armed sleeve on the shooting arm to keep it warm, much like a baseball pitcher would to keep his pitching arm muscles from cooling down, Roche said. In Ray Allen’s case, he started wearing a sleeve on his left arm last year after Detroit’s Rip Hamilton’s long fingernails scratched up Allen’s arm as he guarded him.Personalized advertising may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of information under California and other state privacy laws, and you may have a right to opt out. What is the point of wearing arm sleeves?
Compression Arm Sleeves are designed to wrap your forearm and bicep muscle bellies properly, which result in the following: Reduced muscle vibrations and energy loss that come from impact and movement. Reduced swelling from muscle vibrations and tears.
During your return-to-running program, having less vibration in the calves can reduce muscle fatigue, micro-injuries and post-exercise soreness. The same is true after your calf strain has healed.Over the counter (not medical grade) compression wear like calf sleeves and socks have compression levels ranging from 10 mmHg to 30 mmHg. As a gauge for runners, the longer or more intense your runs, the more compression you’ll need. Most runners prefer a minimum compression level of 20 mmHg. What’s most important is that they should feel supportive but not cause discomfort.

Being more stable in your movement lowers your risk of further injury while you’re recovering from a calf strain. It also reduces your chances of re-injuring your calf once you return to running. Especially over longer distances when fatigue may affect your form.In calf strain, your calf muscles will be sensitive to most movement. Even walking can be painful. In this case, a calf sleeve helps ‘splint’ the injured area, reducing the vibration in the muscles and protecting your calf from further injury as you move around.

A calf compression sleeve is an elasticated garment that slides in place over your foot. It fits around your calf from your ankle to just below your knee. You can wear calf compression sleeves during and after workouts or runs.
Most calf compression sleeves apply a graduated pressure up your calves. This ‘tighter at the bottom – looser at the top’ design, helps direct the flow of fluid away from your calves and up to your heart.

Why do runners wear only one arm sleeve?
If running doesn’t exacerbate their injury, they may only choose to wear a sleeve on that arm. This compression then helps the blood flow freely and prevents it from collecting in the injured area, which would create more inflammation.
Compression sleeves may cause problems with swelling and fluid build-up at the base of your ankles because of where they start compressing (at the ankle). Compression socks don’t have this problem because they compress your whole foot, ankle and calf and the fluid isn’t able to sink back down the leg.Calf sleeves will not heal calf strains on their own. The best way to treat a calf strain is with a graded strengthening and return-to-running program, similar to the one included in the Exakt Health App.

Although calf compression sleeves and socks use similar graduated compression technology, there are a few small differences between them. Choosing one over the other usually comes down to personal preference and comfort. The differences include:

If you are dealing with these types of issues, calf sleeves may be your answer. You simply choose a sleeve that fits your calves and then wear any socks that fit your feet. Problem solved!
Compression sleeves should fit well enough to stay in place on your legs without moving around. If they’re moving up or down as you run, chances are they aren’t working.

At the same time, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that so many runners are using them and feel they make a substantial difference to their running, workouts and recovery.
Compression socks tend to stay in place better than calf sleeves because they can only move down. Unlike calf sleeves, which can shift up or down on the calf. By choosing a well-fitting sock or sleeve, you can prevent this issue altogether. More on that later. If you are injury free and exercising, you can wear calf sleeves during exercise and up to 12 hours after if necessary. This depends on the intensity level during your exercise and your activity levels after.

Calf compression sleeves deliver different levels of compression. This is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). The higher this number, the more pressure they apply to your calves. There is currently not enough research to say that a specific level of compression is best.Better sensation and reflex responses in your legs improve your posture and balance – making you more stable on your feet and better at responding to sudden changes in your environment.

In muscle injuries like calf strain, the more oxygen you have in your muscles, the better they heal. If you choose to continue wearing calf sleeves once your muscle strain has healed, the benefits will remain. The increased blood flow and oxygen (which fuels your muscles) can help keep your muscles working well, and this may help you run faster and further, for longer. Some calf sleeves have add-ons like adjustable support/straps, extra padding and anti-odor or cooling technology. These may be completely unnecessary, or they may make all the difference to your calf sleeve wearing experience! Our advice is to first understand why you want to use them in the first place. When you know that, tick the most important features off your list first, and then move on to any extras. It’s important to note that your regular calf sleeve size may not fit when you have a calf strain! You will need to find a sleeve that fits comfortably around your calf until the swelling subsides. In general, there is no rule about exactly how long you should wear calf sleeves. It’s more important to know when you should and shouldn’t wear them. Which is covered in the next section.

Each brand of compression sleeve will give you a clear guide on how to measure for size. Usually, you will need to measure the circumference of the largest part of your calf and compare it to a size chart. When you’re lying down, or not moving around, your veins don’t have to fight gravity. They don’t have to work very hard to get the blood back to your heart. So, your circulatory system doesn’t need the extra pressure.

More research needs to be done to find out if calf sleeves can be used to treat calf injuries or improve athletic performance. This means we are unable to say for certain if calf sleeves will help your training and recovery from a calf injury.Research suggests that most runners use compression sleeves with the aim of improving their performance and post-run recovery, or to prevent re-injury. Few runners use them to treat their current injuries.
