This is much more affordable than the national average of $316,368.Although these might be the best Saint Louis, MO neighborhoods, the cost of living is still much lower than in other major cities. Accordingly, the cost of a house in St. Louis is still much less than the Chicago, New York, or even Detroit metros.

The city of Manchester, MO is one of the more affordable but still nice suburbs of St. Louis. Its economic indicators weren’t quite up to par to make this list. However, it might be a good spot for young professionals just starting their careers, given the lower cost of living.If proximity to downtown Saint Louis is important to you, then Lafayette Square might be a good fit. Town and Country, Missouri is located west of St. Louis between Chesterfield and Creve Coeur. It has the highest median household income for any city in Missouri with a population of over 10,000. So, it is well-deserving of the number 2 spot on our list.

Glendale has some of the best economic indicators out of any St. Louis suburbs. However, this suburb is on the smaller side. I applaud the Post-Dispatch and Joe Holleman for the coverage of the St. Louis County Council’s move to allocate $300,000 for an educational campaign promoting a tax on the sale of recreational marijuana. (“St. Louis County Council OKs spend tax money to ‘educate’ voters on new tax increase,” March 9.) Importantly, the article pointed out that governmental agencies’ use of public taxpayer funds to promote an election ballot issue violates state law.In its sales pitch, the city states that the funds generated by the new tax would pay for “police, parks, and streets.” This implies that the city needs additional funds to provide key city services. If there is such a need, it did not stop Mayor Bob Nation and his supporters on the City Council from giving around $350 million dollars in tax increment financing to the firm that has plans to redevelop the Chesterfield Mall area. The Parkway School District estimates that the TIF will cost them $220 million.

Revenue from this sales tax shall fund capital improvements, including the operation and maintenance of capital improvements such as asphalt, concrete streets, park trails, pavilions, playgrounds, restrooms, recreation fields and other park improvements. The city council has not demonstrated a need for additional revenue and Prop U places an undue tax burden on residents who are already struggling to pay for gas and groceries under rising inflation. There is never a good time to raise taxes, but right now would be an insult to hardworking members of our community.”
