She then explained to him what happened when he was asleep because of his curiosity. Though the man continuously asked questions, Elisa stated she could not do anything as she was leaving the cell. Elisa was then approached by Izume and she told Elisa not to reveal details to the man and asked if she had more important things to do. Elisa said having the man know more about the world would make him stable but said their preparations were finished. Two days later, Izanami began to broadcast to the world, and Elisa revealed the appearance of Zen Kinebuchi and explained UW’s plot to create a world only for women by eradicating the men.Outside her house, Elisa was crying while petting Jiro when Reito Mizuhara arrived. After Elisa asked if he found a hospital for the dog, Reito said he did and they said he had a rare disease. However, Reito continued and said it would not profitable to create a drug for the disease but it is rare and he was just a sick dog. Elisa then stood up and said she would become a physician-scientist to create a cure for Jiro’s disease. Reito had doubt but Elisa said she would do it herself. Reito then said he would become a doctor too to help cure Jiro, despite his previous claims.

Sometime later, Elisa was contacted by Taniguchi. She told Elisa her beloved visited and then asked her if she wanted to meet him soon. Taniguchi asked Elisa for a meeting with the man she loved and there were other beautiful women along with him, but Elisa refused and said if he loved someone else, she would still love him. It was revealed that Elisa joined a terrorist organization. Elisa later contacted an associate from Keimon West Private High School and informed her their plan would initiate the week because a messenger from UW World Headquarters would arrive soon. On the day of the plan, Elisa contacted her associate but she failed to secure No. 3, so Elisa warned her not to go further. the girl then revealed to Elisa that No. 3 was leaving Keimon City and wondered what was happening on her end. Elisa told her the man was in transport. Sometime later, Elisa, along with her other associates of Izanami, awoke the fourth man, Zen Kinebuchi, from cold sleep.

The next day at a hospital, Elisa was begging for a nurse to let her in, but the nurse denied and said relatives were allowed. However, Ryu Mizuhara asked the nurse to let her in because she was part of their family. Shortly after, Elisa told Reito she arrived to see him off. After a moment, Reito grabbed Elisa’s hand and gave her his pendant and wanted her to hand it back to him after he woke. Later, Reito was put in a capsule for cold sleep. Elisa was in tears as she and Reito put their hands together against the capsule before Reito went to sleep.Later that night on a ship in the South China Sea, Elisa asked Reito for a moment as he was speaking with Maria, Elisa wanted to know if Reito met Taniguchi in Keimon and he said he did. Elisa stated her colleagues from the animal research institute disappeared after going to America during the five years. She then stated she could not hog him because of a clue within Reito’s body could save the world, and if she and Reito were to do something, there could be a negative change within Reito’s body and could not be reversed. In the city, Elisa informed Reito that the Chinese was able to successfully crystallize the MK Virus, but were in Hong Kong to handle other matters that were being handled by Akane, Elisa’s comrade and Mahiru as stated by Sui. Moments later, the group was confronted by an armed force and recognized Reito, demanding that he went with them. The group then withdrawn their handguns but the scene was approached by a bus with a woman encouraging Elisa and the others to leave with her and follow. As they were running from the armed force, Elisa told the group to split into two and if they got lost to meet at Victoria Peak. Some time later, Elisa, Maria, and Sui arrived at the safe house with Reito and Bingbing. Elisa revealed the codeword was Victoria Peak if approached by unknown forces in Hong Kong so Reito could pretend to be alone to decide if she was a friend or foe. Elisa continued to reveal that UW already initiate the project to create children with only female genes and the process was gradually increasing. She then advised those who has men in cold sleep to protect them at all costs. Elisa, along with the other women of Izanami encouraged women to take action. Suddenly, the speech was ceased by UW after regaining control over their frequencies. Elisa later traveled to Taiwan, awaiting for Reito. In Jiufen, Elisa reunited with Reito. Elisa was glad to see Reito’s illness cured but Reito immediately hugged her and was glad to see she was okay. Mahiru then approached the two and the two were happy to see each other. At a Taiwanese restaurant, Reito was curious to know if it was okay for Mahiru and the others to go sightseeing, so Elisa stated it was okay because UW did not have much influence in the area so it would be okay. Reito wanted to know what they wanted with him and No. 4, so Elisa stated that UW had one common goal but had differing opinions on what happened after. Reito was suggested to head to Hong Kong and Europe afterwards to develop a cure for the MK Virus. Sometime later at the National Advanced Medical School in 2040, Reito revealed to Elisa he liked her, but she said she knew for a long time because they have been together for a decade, since elementary school. Reito then revealed to Elisa that he contracted cellular sclerosis. Elisa used her smart ring to display screens and said their company’s supercomputer was beginning to develop a specialized drug for the disease. Reito then told Elisa he would have to go to sleep for four to five years in cold sleep. Elisa said she would wait for him, but Reito suggested to go with Maeda because he confessed to her. Elisa questioned if he liked her but Reito said he could not do anything about it, causing Elisa to cry as she walked away.

Which is probably more than this anime will. It doesn’t seem to want to leave much to the imagination in how the dialogue clearly spells everything out rather than leaving anything implied. I assume without the horrific censorship visually little was left to the imagination either.It does kind of make you wonder why bother streaming an anime if you feel the need to be that intrusive and ridiculous in your censorship. Either put proper warnings on it and let your viewers decide for themselves or don’t add it to your platform but using large black scribbles across huge portions of the screen to cover over pretty much an female skin (in a show that is apparently going to have a lot of it) is just ludicrous. And ugly.

Though Shuumatsu no Harem have added at least one potential plot element that could be worth following and that is Reito’s search for actual love. Prior to going into cryogenic sleep he gave the girl he liked a necklace and he still kind of wants to find her only she’s apparently ‘missing’. Pretty sure monogamy isn’t going to cut it in the world being set-up here but it is kind of sweet.Also if Reito, the medical student (or at least that was the implication) somehow finds a cure for the disease that swept the world after 5 billion women couldn’t while he was sleeping, I think that would just be enough to make me want to face palm myself into oblivion. It’s Shuumatsu no Harem’s convoluted justification to have the main girls strutting about the facility in incredibly tight clothing that doesn’t seem in anyway functional, or in line with what women in the community are wearing, as well as a reason to throw a whole range of female types at the protagonist. Which could quickly just become someone’s escapist fantasy rather than a plot if handled poorly. I’m not up to date with Attack on Titan so won’t be covering the final season as it airs. I do intend to watch the last season just haven’t quite gotten around to it yet.Basically if you were curious about Shuumatsu no Harem for the ecchi elements, you are out of luck on official streaming sites. If you were curious about the sci-fi aspect, its so far pretty meh. It could develop some of its plot elements into something that is interesting but I suspect the sci-fi is going to get eaten by the ecchi and we’ve already established that’s a bust.

What makes it worse is that there’s no actual sex in this first episode and the censorship is still that intense. Reito being asked to view his potential partners through glass could have been done in a sterile scientific way but due to the intense censorship over every subject it actually made it almost laughable.

I like that turn of phrase, ” the sci-fi is going to get eaten by the ecchi.” I imagine them as two kaiju at war with each other. Maybe a mecha monster about to be consumed by a giant – er – well I’ll leave that to your imagination.

There’s more than a few issues with the premise as a whole such as the deterioration of a city that was more or less technologically run even before Reito went to sleep. Shuumatsu no Harem makes a big deal about more than half of the scientists and engineers in the world dying but that really shouldn’t have had an impact on basic maintenance on technologies already in existence. Rather it should just slow down future developments with less people working on them.

For those who weren’t sure what Shuumatsu no Harem is about it begins with our protagonist Reito having to go into cold sleep because he’s sick and while modern technology (it begins in 2040) is working on a cure it won’t be ready for up to five years. Five years later he is awoken and cured only to find out that pretty much every other man on the planet is dead due to a virus sweeping the world. Then, in he’s informed he needs to pretty much mate with as many women as possible and no artificial insemination won’t work (though why isn’t actually explained but clearly they wanted that option off the table).

Later in his room, Reito saw on his phone that his pendant was in Niigata in the Niigata Prefecture but did not believe he could pin point her location. Suddenly, Akane entered to speak with Reito. In the shower (to avoid bugs), Akane revealed to Reito that the three women arrested were responsible for manufacturing the MK Virus, but she could not believe it despite her hatred towards her mother and could not trust Chloe. She continued speaking that her mother did not attend her brother’s funeral and was focusing on the pandemic in the country. Reito said he would petition to Chloe so they could speak to her mother but Akane was in tears. Suddenly, Maria rushed in the shower and showed them the reveal of Izanami by Elisa and the fourth man. The group also revealed UW’s plan to have a world with only women by eradicating the men.In a room, Reito said there were not any clues there, but Maria said since they do not know what Mr. Taniguchi did before he was infected, so there were unable to identify the source. Reito then recalled asking Taniguchi what he did before he was infected but she refused to answer. After looking outside at the refugee district, Reito asked Maria if the directors cared about the outskirts, so Maria told him they cared but forceful and secretively. She then informed him of her younger sister and how UW helped her, UW reviving the men in cold sleep was a desperate act. The next day in a car, Rea gave Reito back the framed picture of Granny Taniguchi and her husband after she and Maria realized it was not contaminated with a virus. Reito then wondered why Taniguchi gave him the picture as he remembered her asking if he was willing to give up on Elisa. Suddenly, Reito realized his ring was beeping. While driving past Keimon West Private High School, Reito asked Maria if she wanted to drop by to see her sister, but Maria did not want to because she could be busy with her studies.A day later in the cafeteria, Reito, accompanied by Mira and Mahiru, was eating and enjoyed the food. Reito questioned the amount of chefs and wondered why machines were not preparing the food because they were more efficient, but Mira said they gathered the best people in the world because No. 1 stated man-made food stimulated a man’s appetite and the machines prepared the ordinary meals. Reito commented Mira ate a lot, but Mahiru was jealous of her slim body. Reito agreed Mira had a slim body while looking at her breasts, but Mahiru noticed and pinched his cheek before heading back to her room. After Mira ate Reito’s parfait, she stated she prepared a bodyguard and nurse for him to sleep with. After the group set off, Reito was staring off into the sea and was thinking of being to see Elisa and wondered why Mira wanted to abide by her duty in the Japan Branch of UW. Suddenly, Mahiru approached and realized he was thinking of Mira. After trying to justify himself, Mahiru gave him a tablet with a message. Reito wanted to know who it was from but Mahiru walked away without responding. The tablet connected to Kyoji, and Reito apologized to him for worrying, but Kyoji believed he did the right thing because Chloe told him to abstain from mating and was barred from leaving. Kyoji was given a special tablet from his secretary so he could contact Reito through the deep web so UW could not detect him. Reito was asked by Kyoji to contact him once in and while and to say to Mahiru for him. Later, the Reito Group arrived in Northern Taiwan and was taken to Jiufen. The Izanami member informed Reito and the others that Elisa was arriving soon and asked him not to stand out considering there were many people there. Reito then remembered a time where he was at a festival with Elisa and discussed her plans to become a doctor to cure incurable diseases. As he was walking up a flight of stairs, Reito unexpectedly reunited with Elisa.Elisa warned those with men in cold sleep should protect them, having Reito think of Ryu. After Elisa proclaimed for the woman to take action, the Japan Branch was able to regain control of their frequencies and told the nation not to be misled by their falsehoods. Reito went to Chloe and demanded her to explain it. Chloe said if the men were to be eradicated then he would be dead already, but Reito believed they wanted to kill him last because he was known by the world. Chloe then reminded Reito that Elisa was part of a terrorist group and her group kidnapped the fourth man. Suddenly, Chloe took off her coat because it was hot to her and asked Reito to take a shower with her but he walked out. After he left, he was with Akane, Maria, and Sui. Reito was determined to see Elisa, but suddenly, Akane suggested for them to escape from there. However, Reito wanted to continue speaking in his room but Sui sensed two individuals in the room. After entering, Reito was greeted by No. 3 Shota Doi. Shota informed the Reito Group that he was in Keimon City but took refuge there because the terrorism got serious. Karen then asked Reito what Chloe Mansfield was like, so he informed her that UW called Izanami terrorists but the terrorists referred to UW as despite Chloe saving him once. Later in his room during the night at 11 o’clock (23 o’clock), Reito invited Mira to his room. After entering the bathroom so the two did not have to worry about be tapped, Reito asked Mira to leave with him, Akane, and the others because she took care of him when he woke from cold sleep, but Mira refused. She then removed her clothing and pleaded for Reito to mate with her immediately if he wanted her to go.The next day in a car in New Metropolis, Mahiru Mizuhara was curious to know what Reito said to Elisa to he told her he liked her but was unsure of her response and thought it turned to a fight. Ryu then asked if he was fine with it but Reito responded saying there was no helping it. Ten minutes later in the third hospital of New Metropolis, while speaking to Takagi, Reito was informed maintaining his health would not be a problem and he would be cured after waking after up to five years. In another room, Reito was visited by his sister Mahiru and his brother Ryu before going into cold sleep when Elisa attempted to get in but was denied. However, Ryu requested for her to be let in because he claimed she was part of their family. After Ryu and Mahiru left the room, Elisa said she visited to see him off. Reito then gave her his pendant for her to hand it back to after he wakes up. He was later put into a capsule for cold sleep and before sleeping, he and Elisa put their hand to the glass and Reito thought she had a cute smile. Reito then began washing Akane’s back. Reito said it was time to rinse, but Akane wanted him to wash under her arms, her body, her legs, and then told him to wash everything. She then forced Reito to wash her genitalia and her right breast. Immediately, Reito quickly ran away and told her to finish it herself. Later, Reito went to Keimon City Central Hospital with Rea and Maria and visited the patient, Taniguchi. Rea attempted to gather more information about her husband, who was the first in Japan to be a victim of the MK Virus. However, Taniguchi refused to talk about him because of her hatred towards UW; however, she was impressed by Reito’s cure development though it had nothing to do with her. Reito asked the elderly woman what they could do to get her to help them, so she said to give her a hug, only to be kidding and then told them to get out. While walking in the halls, Maria said there were many theories for the origin of the MK Virus but it was still unclear. Maria said if they found out what the old man did before the outbreak of the MK Virus, they could pinpoint the source of the virus. Rea said she would hardly speak of Taniguchi’s deceased husband because of her distrust of UW and speculated it might be due to the previous government. The next day, Reito attended the meeting of Mahiru and Kyoji but Mahiru seemed uninterested. After Mahiru walked away having something to do, Reito walked after her but apologized to Kyoji. Later in their secret hideout, Reito praised Maria for being able to access the underground network with old computers. Maria said her friends from when she was a student were knowledgeable about that but the same ones were in America, but told Reito she would be unable to send data because of UW Headquarters being stricter on intel regulations. After Akane appeared, Maria acknowledged that her friends were in the Keimon City Central District Third Hospital, leaving Reito to believe the MK Virus was manufactured in the hospital. Later the night at the hospital, Akane asked Reito his opinion on Mira, so he told her she was a lovely person. Akane then teased Reito for his way of thinking. Suddenly, because of her fright of ghosts, Sui punched a hole in the wall because she believed she saw a corpse move, revealing a vent where they could move in. In the vent, behind Maria, she asked him if he saw it but Reito believed she was talking about her butt, but Maria showed him an underground facility below. Akane pressed herself against Reito, wanting to see, caused the group to fall through. The minister of technology was present and wanted to stop them, but American soldiers approached and killed the director and her assistants. With the soldiers, Chloe revealed to be from UW World Headquarters and introduced herself as Chloe Mansfield.The next day, Reito realized why Elisa started research and development of a vaccine as opposed to a anti-viral medicine but decided to take a break due to having little information. In the restroom, Reito was in the stall when Akane appeared. Akane stated her duty was to understand Reito’s and Sui’s condition before forcing Reito to grab her breast. However, Reito jerked away before leaving the restroom. While outside, he found Mira eating while sitting on a bench. A while later in the courtyard, Reito told Mira she looked like his childhood friend but said she was more composed. Mira then informed Reito she had people looking for Elisa’s whereabouts but Reito said his plan was developing a cure. Mira then apologized to Reito for what happened at the research institute, but Reito told her not to worry because his injury healed quickly. Reito asked Mira if she was against being his secretary due to his excuses and acting on his own accord, but suggested together because he realized what was happening. He then asked Mira how long she worked there and she responded saying two years but could not tell him anything else.

The next day, Reito watched a video about what happened in the world during his sleep, and Reito thought it sounded like a sci-fi novel but Mira said it was reality and his existence was only known to that establishment and a small portion of UW’s upper echelon. Reito wondered if they could use artificial insemination but Mira explained when they tested it, the boys died within a few days. Reito wondered if the sperm of those who have anti-bodies against the MK Virus would work but Mira stated they tested it out with No. 1 but embryo genesis did not occur but the children that were born through sex were alive. After explaining the science of the world was declining, Mira told Reito mankind would collapse if the men with the immunity did not make children. Mira gave Reito a pad of women to do childbirth with but Reito was hesitant so Mira invited someone he trusted to persuade him. Mahiru appeared and saw Reito with the pad and thought he was a pervert. A while later in the capsule room, Reito saw Ryu in a capsule and was told by Mahiru he was still alive. As he was leaving, Reito said he was determined to save his brother. While walking through the halls, Reito asked Mahiru what happened to Elisa, so Mahiru explained she went missing three years prior and she met with her mother about a year ago and said she did not have contact with her. Shocked, Reito attempted to call Elisa, but she did not answer. Later that night, Reito was in bed when Mira appeared in a camisole. Mira took her camisole off before getting on top of Reito and said she went to pleasure him and kissed him.

Reito revealed to the world he woke from cold sleep a few days prior and told them to not give up hope because he planned to make a cure for the MK Virus. After the speech, Reito requested to Kihara to go outside, but she said to have his secretary and bodyguard with him. She also said she would arrange for him to use the MK Virus’s research facility. As Kihara was talking about Kyoji and the other men, Reito said he would not disclose anything. As the Reito Group were leaving, the secretary of health said to keep his promise if he wanted them to properly maintain his sleeping brother’s healthcare. In the car, Reito was speaking to his sister. She was mad at Reito because danger to him will increase. She also said she told her friends Reito was in cold sleep but would call her a liar. Reito jokingly said if she told them it was a national secret before Mahiru told him to go to hell. Shortly after, Reito apologized to Mira for brining more problems to her but she said it was too late to go back since the word knew about him. Reito said it had gotten better to not have to be secretive. Mira said it would be easier to search for Elisa and said she wanted to meet her. After thanking Mira, Reito looked back at the UW building and wondered what they were planning. Over a week later, Reito was on the computer researching.

Reito was begging the women to stop striping off his clothes due to the minister of technology’s orders. The secretary revealed she used a drug on the women and they were bound to get pregnant. The women began to lick Reito and he pleaded for them to stop. One of the women attempted to get on Reito but the minister kicked her off because she did not inject a needle into him yet. Suddenly, Sui appeared and grabbed the secretary’s hand and said she will not allow her to harm Reito. Mira and Akane then approached Reito. Before the minister of technology left, she said to catch him later, calling him her Meat Dildo. Sometime later in the minister of state’s office, she revealed her name to be Kihara and introduced the other being the administration of the country. Reito asked if she meant ruling. Kihara found an angry tone in his voice but said they did something unforgivable. The minister of general affairs said she minister of technology was a researcher. Reito said to not act as if every researcher lacked common sense but the minister of general affairs said it was not what she meant. Reito asked why he was summoned so Kihara told him to come here. While looking out the building, Kihara asked Reito what he thought about the world, and he said it was strange. Kihara said the women became chaotic and some were heartbroken. Reito wondered if she was referring to mating and had a plan but she knew about the plan and was talking about something else. Mira thought what Kihara said was dangerous but Reito agreed but had conditions. Reito was then broadcasted onto TV.Five years later in 2045, Reito woke up in a hospital room and was greeted by a woman. She then told him to take a shower before he got his medical check-up. After getting his check-up the doctor informed Reito he made a full recovery and the specialized drug was developed while he was sleeping and was administered to him while he was sleeping. Relieved, Reito asked the doctor if Takagi was going in, but the female doctor said he was no longer there. After asking the doctor more questions, the woman returned and said she would explain what happened while he was asleep. Later in a car, the woman revealed her name to be Mira Suou and said she was his dedicated secretary. She continued and said almost four years prior, a new type of virus know as the MK Virus ran wild and the airborne virus caused a worldwide pandemic instantly. She also said the specialized drug was not developed and it still no vaccine had been discovered.

The next day, the Reito Group (except Mira) visited Taniguchi, and she refused to talk about her husband. Reito pleaded because they just needed to know where her husband was and what he did before he died. Taniguchi told Reito to stop making vaccines and make children because he was the one guy capable of doing it. Rea told the old woman that Reito had not mated since he woke from cold sleep and he did not produce with women, so she thought there was something wrong with Reito, though Reito said it was not what she meant. Taniguchi then told Reito if he got a better reading on every examination, she would tell him about her husband. After taking the examinations, Taniguchi thought something was wrong with Reito because of his results, but Reito said it was because of what happened to him. Taniguchi wondered why Reito was not having sex while in the position he was in, so Reito responded saying there is a girl he liked even though he had the urges to do this. He later said everything would balance out if he managed to make a vaccine for the MK Virus before the old woman ended the discussion. Later at night in the outdoor bath, Reito was enjoying the bath but Sui told him not to stay for long or she would get scolded by Rea. Moments later, students were approaching so Sui told Reito to hide.Reito was shocked to hear the MK Virus was man-made. Elisa said she had data on the virus but could not trust anyone, and she cried as she stated she wanted to see him. Reito then heard Mahiru and Mira heading his way. Shortly after, Reito wondered if Mira was watching him, but she said he looked tired. She then told him he was given permission to use the experimental facility, but the final decision would be made after an interview with the minister of technology. Mira said they would be heading to the UW Japan Branch later in the afternoon and requested for Reito to sleep until then before she left the room. Mahiru asked Reito if the ring was Elisa’s, but the latter said it was an empty ring. Later in the afternoon in a car, Reito commented the area looked wealthy, so Mira explained it was because the UW personnel and the families of the men who survived cold sleep resided there. Reito wondered why it was different from the refugee district, so Mira explained it was due to the MK Virus and corpses of those who died were cremated in a specific district and the area became desolate. After arriving at the office of the secretary of technology, Mira, Akane, and Sui were forced to wait in the lobby by a government official because it was the secretary’s orders. After entering the minister’s office, she told Reito to turn around, and he was forced unconscious. Sometime later in a closed room, Reito was locked in a chair. The minister of technology wondered if he was denying mating because of a girl he liked. At the same time, several naked women were crawling toward Reito, and the secretary suggested for them to fornicate to their heart’s content. She then drew a needle of drugs so Reito could get it on.

In the morning, Reito was rubbing Taniguchi’s shoulders. Taniguchi then told Reito to go to a bakery at the intersection 200 meters from the hospital to buy the sweet white bean bun. Rea went along with Reito. Reito and Rea went to the bakery and bought the sweet white bean bun. After returning to the hospital, but Taniguchi did not want the bun anymore. She then asked Reito if he planned to never mate but Reito said he would if it was for the sake of mankind but he would not give up on liking the girl he loves. Taniguchi then said to return tomorrow and said there were times she wanted to talk about that man. In the hospital the next day, the Reito Group visited Taniguchi but she was unconscious. Reito was given a framed picture of Granny Taniguchi and her husband by a nurse with the request of the old woman. Reito then declared he would hold onto the picture, and when Taniguchi got better, he would give it back to her. Later in the day at an abandoned hospital with Maria and Sui, Maria informed Reito it was the former hospital Taniguchi’s husband was sent to after being infected.Some night later, Reito was dreaming about being locked in a chair while Mira and Akane licked his body and wanted to mate. This shocked Reito, causing him to wake up to him in his bed with Sui and Akane. In the morning, Reito and Mira were watching Reito’s show, A Day in the Life of Reito Mizuhara and he questioned the demand for the show, so Mira said the ratings for the show was domestically 94%. After looking at the girls outside attempting to meet Reito, Mira showed Reito women who wanted to mate with him. Reito denied but asked about Mahiru. Mira informed Reito she went in and out of the refugee district, so she demanded him to refrain from getting involved because they did not know what would happen if she was found out to be his little sister. Sometime later, Reito continued his research to develop a vaccine for the MK Virus but did not know enough about the virus. As he was leaving the room to take a breather, he was pushed down by a female researcher who was lost in thought. After she apologized, Reito asked if she was okay, but she realized he was a boy and screamed while running away, leaving Reito confused. In the cafeteria, Reito was eating when two girls asked for his autograph. However, a woman appeared and claimed him to be assaulting women, causing the girls to walk away. Reito was displeased with her saying something that could ruin a reputation but she further insulted him by calling him a lech. Before walking away, the woman told Reito that he would not last forever. Reito was then contacted by Mira who wanted to have a moment with him.
