Sunset Birmingham Al

Its natural beauty is also its worst feature, since it is because of this geographical location that Rjukan does not receive a single drop of sunlight for 6 months of the year. From September to March the mountains make it impossible for the rays of sun.At first this sounds fantastic. But it really isn’t that pleasant, since its 90,000+ inhabitants have to combat an arid climate, typical of the Sonora desert, which it forms part of. We return to North America to visit Barrow, located in the extreme north point of Alaska. It is the most northerly point of the Unites States and a significant geographical landmark, marking the limits between two of the marginal seas of the Arctic Ocean: the Chukchi and the Beaufort. It is commonly knowns as the “the Valley of the Sun” (so original…) and it has a population of approximately one and a half million. Clear skies are common here, with an average of 300 days of sunlight per year.

What month has the longest sunset?
Sunsets take a longer time around solstices, and a shorter time around equinoxes. It’s true whether you live in Earth’s Northern or Southern Hemisphere. As viewed from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the sun rises and sets farthest north at the June solstice and farthest south at the December solstice.
Imagine a little village located in a valley to the south of Norway, surrounded by mountains. Approximately 170 kilometres from Oslo, Rjukan is one of the most singular places in the world.According to the World Meteorological Organization, Yuma (Arizona) is the sunniest place on earth. It has a total of 11 hours of sunlight in winter and up to 13 in summer. This means Yuma experiences an average of 4,015 hours of sunshine per year.

Here lies the ancient city of Elephantine, which was an important site until the Hellenistic period as it was next to the first waterfall, a natural border controlling the routes of the south of Egypt.

From America, we will now go across to the African continent, specifically the Nile basin. Located in the south of Egypt, Aswan is the sunniest city in Africa, with 10.6 hours of sunlight per day and around 3,863 hours per year.
The capital of the Faroe Islands, Tórshavn, is not suitable for those that feel the cold. Here, in the middle of the North Atlantic, between the Scottish coast and Iceland, is an archipelago battered by strong winds and where fog and cloudy skies are commonplace.Tórshavn only sees around 37 days of sunshine per year, averaging around 840 hours per year. The rest of the time you best wrap up: average temperatures don’t reach 7°C.It recently changed its name to Utqiaġvik, with the aim of honouring the indigenous tribes and the inuit ethnic origin of the area, particularly the Thule culture. But as with its neighbour Yuma, its hot days are what it is famous for. Phoenix reaches 38°C, 89 days per year, particularly in June and September. It often exceeds temperatures of 40ºC and in 1990 it reached its own record of 50°C. Rainfall does not exceed 200mm per year and temperatures exceed 40°C practically 100 days per year. It is a furnace that would leave you wishing for a winter’s rainy afternoon. But this situation changed a couple of years ago. After a century spending six months of the year in semi-darkness, in 2013, 3 heliostat mirrors were installed, which move and rotate on a specific axis, to capture the sunlight. Its tracking system enables them to track the sun depending on the height thereof and reflect sunlight downwards to the main square, where the inhabitants of Rjukan can feel a little bit of sun on their faces while they chat to their neighbours. Barrow can go two months without seeing any sunlight, because it is located just a few hundred kilometres from the Arctic Polar Circle. Perhaps to compensate for this, Barrow experiences what is knowns as “midnight sun”, when the king of the sky comes out in May and it won’t set again for 3 months. You don’t have to go too far to find the second sunniest place on earth. Phoenix, the capital, the largest city of Arizona, takes second place, with 3.872 hours of sunshine per year.

There are places where the sun barely shines… and others in which it shines too much. Luckily electricity saves the day, providing light where it is needed and cooling the atmosphere if it gets too hot.

The sun is 14 h 21 min. above the horizon, the daylight. The morning astronomical twilling starts at 03:57, the evening astronomical twilling ends at 21:44, the sky is complettely dark.

A detailed table and graphics showing the sunsrise and sunset times for more than 100.000 places around the world. What time is it dark today and how long does it take for it to get dark after sunset? What is the day length today?During civil twilight the geometric center of the sun is between 0 and 6 degrees below the horizon. Objects are clearly distinguished without artificial light.During astronomical twilight the center of the sun is between 12 and 18 degrees below the horizon. Between the end of astronomical twilight in the evening and the beginning of astronomical twilight in the morning, the sky is dark enough for all astronomical observations.

Where is the fastest sunset in the world?
Your latitude ultimately determines the duration of the sunset, and it’s because of this that the sun sets the fastest near the equator, and the slowest near the poles. Since the sun sits much higher in the sky near the equator at solar noon than at the poles, the equator gets the most direct sunlight year round.
During nautical twilight the center of the sun is between 6 and 12 degrees below the horizon. Sailors can navigate, using a visible horizon as reference.

What US state has the longest day?
1. Yuma (USA) According to the World Meteorological Organization, Yuma (Arizona) is the sunniest place on earth. It has a total of 11 hours of sunlight in winter and up to 13 in summer.
Here’s a natural phenomenon you might not have imagined. That is, the longest sunsets happen around the time of the solstices. We’re talking about how many seconds it takes for the body of the sun to sink below your western horizon. Sunsets take a longer time around solstices, and a shorter time around equinoxes. It’s true whether you live in Earth’s Northern or Southern Hemisphere. Additionally, the closer December sun moves eastward upon the ecliptic at a faster clip, helping to slow down the December solstice sunset (and sunrise) even more. For instance, at 50 degrees north latitude, the winter solstice sunset (sunrise) lasts about 4 minutes and 18 seconds, or about 8 seconds longer than the sunset (sunrise) on the summer solstice. That’s because the sun is closer to Earth in December than it is in June. Therefore, the sun’s disk looms a bit larger in our sky in December, and so it takes slightly longer to set.

The sunset duration varies by latitude. But let’s just consider one latitude – 40 degrees north – the latitude of Denver or Philadelphia in the United States, Sardinia in the Mediterranean, or Beijing in China.
Now consider that the farther the sun sets from due west along the horizon, the shallower the angle of the setting sun. That means a longer duration for sunset at the solstices. That’s half a minute longer than the sunset at the same latitude on the day of an equinox. The equinox sun at 40 degrees north latitude sets in roughly 2 3/4 minutes. At more northerly temperate latitudes, the sunset duration is greater; and at latitudes closer to the equator, the sunset duration is less. Near the Arctic Circle (65 degrees north latitude), the duration of a solstice sunset lasts about 15 minutes. At the equator (0 degrees latitude), the solstice sun takes a little over 2 1/4 minutes to set. Meanwhile, at an equinox, the sun rises due east and sets due west. That means – on the day of an equinox – the setting sun hits the horizon at its steepest possible angle. In 2023, the Northern Hemisphere’s summer solstice – and Southern Hemisphere’s winter solstice – falls on June 21, 2023, at 14:58 UTC (that is 9:58 a.m. in central North America; translate UTC to your time). Read more about the June solstice, here.

As viewed from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the sun rises and sets farthest north at the June solstice and farthest south at the December solstice. As well as being a great place for a walk or nature spotting, Edgbaston Reservoir is fantastic at sunset. The best places to observe this is at the east end of the lake towards the Sailing Club or Peace Pagoda.

The central areas on the hill near Colmore Row, Victoria Square and Centenary Square are nice at sunset. Coupled with the interesting architecture, these sometimes make for great photography subjects.
I love this post idea – I haven’t seen anything like it. I wish I’d seen it before I was in Brum for the games this summer! I’ll have to save it for when I’m back at uni in the UK. Particularly love that photo on the footbridgeThe banks of the Lapal Canal are a brilliant spot to view the sun setting or just be at golden hour. During this time, the wildfowl also seems to come to life. The tree-lined banks and reed beds certainly add a dimension to the low sun, too.

The most popular park in the city is a brilliant spot for observing the sun going down. An advantage is that Cannon Hill Park has some great benches to sit on and watch the show.
There are a few options for good places in Birmingham to watch: the sunrise or sunset. However, there are more places that benefit from the lights of the golden hour. The sun at the beginning and end of the day creates some great lighting, hence the name of the golden hour. A nickname locally for these is Brumrise and Brumset, particularly on social media. The best way to check sunrise and sunset times is to ask Google. Identifying a great day to see the low suns is more tricky. In Birmingham, it relies on the British weather, which is unpredictable. Clear skies or those marked with partial cloud cover often deliver the best results. There are various suitable spots in the Jewellery Quarter area where the sky is great towards the end of the day. My particular favourites are near to the Chamberlin Clock and Warstone Lane cemetery. The side roads facing west also often have great colouring, particularly in the summer months.

The sun, being low in the sky, changes the appearance of many of the Birmingham buildings. The first and last hour of daylight is the best to take photographs in any city.
Near to the Bull Ring Shopping Centre is St Martin’s Church, the best sport for sunrise in the city. Above this is a terrace raised above the church. The gap between the bullring building and the church is a popular spot for sunrise photographers, and it delivers.Just outside of Birmingham, near Halesowen, is Leasowes Park, a beautiful place for a walk in the countryside. This is pretty simple to get to on the National Express X9 or X10 routes from the city centre.

Why is sunset late in summer?
From horizon to horizon, the Sun’s track is longer in summer and shorter in winter; so that in summer, sunrises are much earlier and sunsets are much later than in winter. See, for example, the graphic below, or this photograph of the Sun’s paths through the sky at different times of the year.
The Digbeth Branch canal and a few sites in Digbeth are nice at sunset. Also, the views from trains coming over the viaducts in the city can be beautiful.

Depending on opening hours, Selfridges’ car park is a delightful spot to watch the sun come out to play. During the summer, the timings may mean that this is not accessible, so check their hours before departing. All predicted sunrise and sunset times for Birmingham are based on ideal weather conditions on level ground at sea level. Actual times may differ according to local conditions. For more information about how the times are calculated, as well as the meanings of things like ‘dawn’, ‘dusk’ and ‘twilight’, as well as why the length of the day on the equinoxes probably isn’t what you expect it to be, see the FAQ.

And so, because the time on our wristwatches or on our smartphones doesn’t match exactly with the time we observe by looking at the actual movement and position of the Sun in the sky, the earliest sunset of the year falls 2 weeks prior to the solstice at latitudes of 40° N.

Due to a discrepancy between our clocks, which mark off nice, neat 24 hours every day, and the actual rotation of the Earth on its axis, we experience a phenomenon where the earliest sunset of the year does not coincide with the shortest day of the year, but occurs nearly 2 weeks prior in the mid latitudes.

If you are wondering when the earliest sunrise occurs, the pattern is nearly a mirror image of what happens in the winter. The earliest sunrise in 2023 arrives on June 14, about a week before the summer solstice, which is June 21. The latest sunset happens a week after that, on June 27 (at 40° North latitude).
Whereas the astronomical day goes from solar noon to solar noon (a description which marks the highest point of the Sun in the sky at a given latitude, regardless of the date), these solar days aren’t exactly 24 hours every time. They’re close—most everywhere but polar regions—but in the weeks approaching the solstice, an astronomical day is more like 24 hours and 30 seconds. The only time our days are exactly 24 hours long are between a solstice (when we experience the longest or shortest day of the year) and an equinox (when day and night are more or less of equal length.)Second, the orbit of the Earth around the Sun isn’t a perfect circle. It’s a bit of an oval, or ellipse, and at some points in the orbit we are closer to the Sun, causing the Earth to speed up a bit in the winter, and slow down in the summer. That’s enough to put our clocks a bit out of sync around the solstices, to the tune of about half a minute per day. While the Sun sets a little earlier at the 40° N. latitude on December 7th (in New York, sunset occurs at 4:35 p.m.), the day itself will be longer in hours (9 hours and 27 minutes) than on December 21st, the shortest day of the year (9 hours and 20 minutes); it’s just that the sunset will come earlier on the clock. The reason for the discrepancy in time is twofold. First, the Earth is tilted 23.5° on its rotational axis relative to the plane of our path around the Sun. In the winter, those of us in the Northern hemisphere are tilted away from the Sun.If you open your latest edition of the Farmers’ Almanac, (you have yours, right?) you’ll see that the earliest sunset for the year occurs on December 8, 2023 (at 40° North latitude). But wait, if the winter solstice, which happens on December 21, is the shortest day of the year, how can this be?ARE YOU SEEING THIS PRICE REDUCTION!!! COME AND GET IT! Therefore, between the dates of earliest sunset and latest sunrise, the clock effect dominates the geometric effect in determining the times of sunrise and sunset for a given latitude. The geometric effect mentioned above is a function of the Sun’s declination, the term that astronomers use for the angle that the center of the Sun makes with the plane of the Earth’s equator, as viewed by a fictitious observer at the center of the Earth. As the Earth orbits the Sun, the Sun’s declination goes from +23.4° at the summer solstice to −23.4° at the winter solstice, and back again, passing through declination zero (that is, through the equatorial plane) at the two equinoxes. On the surface of the Earth, the length of time that the center of the Sun is above the horizon at any given latitude, in hours, is given approximately by
